45 Super for the 97B?
« on: March 18, 2012, 12:55:43 PM »
Hello new to this forum.  I have been doing some research on this gun, and for the $, this gun is right up there in performance with say a P220 stainless costing a few hundred dollars more.  How tough is this pistol.  Besides a heavier recoil spring (at least 16lbs) what would it take for this gun to shoot some 45 Super rounds Buffalo Bore has.  I am talking about 100 rounds a year or less.  Since this gun is not offered in 10mm, the 45 Super is another option for woods use for black bear sized animals and less.  Thx.   :)

(Sorry I just realized I posted in the wrong thread-this needs to be in the 97B forums)  ;)

You need a stiffer hammer spring, too, to slow the slide down.

I am not sure.  Why don't you drop a PM to schmeky and ask him.  I mostly work on 1911s in 45 Super. Schmeky might have other ideas too.  He is the acknowledged expert on 97Bs.

What mods do you have to make on your 1911s to shoot the 45 Super?  Is the Super that much more punishing on an all metal gun? Thx.  I will pm schmeky-

Can the 97B tolorate 45 Super through it if the proper mods are made?  What springs need to be replaced for heavier ones besides the recoil and hammer springs? Thx.   :)

I use a .45 Witness converted to .45 Super and the CZ97B should be able to be converted as well.  My Conversion largely consists of an Wolff 18 lb Recoil Spring and a Sprinco Recoil Reducer.

What springs need to be replaced for heavier ones besides the recoil and hammer springs?

Just replace the Firing Pin Spring with a slightly heavier one if possible.  I use the Firing Pin Spring that came with the 18 lb Recoil Spring, which I just leave in the Pistol, when I convert back.  Have never bothered to change the Main/Hammer Spring.

Make sure you use .45 Super Brass!

Thankyou for the info!  I realized too late I posted in the wrong forum-but couldn't change once posted.
I saw that on the Wolff website that they offer a 16lb recoil spring for the 97B.  If the Witness 18lb recoil will work on the 97B, I could give that a try.  I also like the idea of the Sprinco recoil reducer-less battering for the gun.
The 45 Super I would be using is from Buffalo Bore.  I would not be shooting boxes of this stuff (at $53.00 a box), but I would still like to be able to shoot a couple boxes a year.  I think the 45 Super is a great alternative to the 10mm.  :)

$53.00 a box!  :o  Yowsers!  :o  Glad I load my own!  :)  Admittedly, I only use it occasionally, but I know I'm $$ ahead, regardless.

Very true!  It also gives the dyed in the wool .45 ACP user and/or reloader another outlet for Bullets of the same diameter and in one of the same pistols or carbine he/she may already own.
