Measure the feed lip gaps on a magazine that does work properly and close up the lips on the malfunctioning magazine to same dimensions.
A good shot at close range beats a 'hit' at a longer range.

how high are we talking, is the bolt face clipping the mag, or pushing the round up out of the mag instead of chambering it.  ive seen a couple of mags  jaws spread by forcing the fifth round, this can lead to the round been held unsecurly, in some cases sitting at extreme angles nose up or down  so that the bolt can skip over the round or it can literally jump out of the mag as soon as you attempt to chamber it.        just out of interest is the problem with the mag that came with the rifle or a spare (could be one someone elses problem passed on).

If its only the first round you may be using to much force insertng th magazine. Probably feed lips though.

What specifically is the issue?
Bolt hits the magazine?
Cartridges are presented too high and end up in front of the extractor claw?

1st question... Is this a brand new rifle that doesn't work or is this an older rifle that worked just fine until now?

If it's older and it always worked till now - suspect your mag is bent... Replace mag.

If it's brand new....
First, I would try to find out whether it came with the correct magazine...  If you somehow got a 7.62x39 mag - the cartridges are bigger diameter and may stick up higher in the mag... (Perhaps it's stamped on the side of the mag.)  Call up CZ... They may want you to send the rifle back.

If it's identified as a 204 ruger mag, and it's new and either the bolt hits the mag or it presents cartridges in front of the extractor claw ... Send it back to CZ...  That's what Warranty service is for...

Now.. If you (Or someone before you) modified it by chopping the top of the Trigger guard mag slot off because of a stock inletting problem (Stock inletted way too shallow)... Send back to CZ for a new mag and/or stock...

Thanks

I have a new cz 527 carbine in 7.62x39mm. It seems to have a similar issue with the mag spring pushing up round #3 and #4 in a 5 round load. When I say 'pushing up', the bolt closes on the round with the round hitting the receiver top, not entering the chamber. (like an unfired stovepipe)  I think the mag-lips allow the spring to extend beyond where it should, but haven't quite figured that out yet.

I have a second factory mag with the rifle. I will use it next time to see if it has a similar issue, before contacting CZ
