Slide rack assist concepts

This is an idea I had. Just want to get a gauge of what everyone thought about it.

Still working on ideas on how to hold the pieces together.

Right now, its just a concept, I do not have the capability to make these, and we would need to find someone interested for that.

The mockup pic is a very rough version, to do a better job would require a lot of time, but hopefully it gets the idea across.

I would be concerned about options 1 and 2 hitting the thumb of guys like me who like to "ride the safety" like a 1911.

As far as option 3 goes, look at the factory rear sight on a Tactical Sport.  It is designed to be both a sight and slide racker.  Another option would be to drill and tap or weld a stud on the side of a factory rear sight.  On a factory style sight, I think this would work, but I don't know if it would torque the sight too much on, say, a CZ Custom Tactical Rear sight.

With the position of the retaining pin it would be difficult to hit your thumb. You would need to have your thumb pretty high, pretty much resting on the slide, but it could be possible I guess.

The piece would not be very thick either, so that helps.

As far as the tactical sport sight... its not really shaped to help the two most used ways to rack the slide. Overall I am trying to get these designs to be unobtrusive enough that it wouldn't hinder normal use like drawing from a holster yet still provide more grip when racking the slide.

As far as altering the existing sight, that is what the idea on the bottom right is. 

These are just basic ideas, and need/are being refined. I am actually on a third revision... in my head.  But I didn't have mockups of those yet.

The new revisions are a little more refined in final shapes and retaining methods.

The real challenge would be finding someone capable and willing to produce these parts. For that there needs to be a market/interest for them.

I think you and I are talking about two different things.  I was thinking of a slide racker like used in competitions...you are thinking of something to maximize the ease of slide racking for someone who can't get a good enough grip on the slide serrations. 

Here was my thought (although not drawn as awesomely as yours!):



The racker could be made quite cheaply.  The most difficult part would be to machine the hole in the side of the sight.  You could drill and tap the racker and sight, throw on a little red Loctite, and be done for less than $50 (labor being most of the cost).  This would be an alternative for someone who doesn't want to drill or mill their slide for a typical racker.  In my case, I have a nickle framed gun and can't machine it without refinishing the entire gun.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking you meant, I have seen those types before, but its more of a competition type assist. It wouldn't really work for a pistol you holster like a duty gun.

But options are always good. 

If a lot of people like the ideas, someone might get interested in making them.

I saw those... would be great for a competition gun. I think that one doesn't need any machining done to fit either.

Thats one of the goals I have with the designs, no machine work needed to make them fit.

The factory rear is pretty sturdy, and should be able to  handle an added stud of some sort.  The Comp Rear sights (typical of your last picture) optional on the 75's may not be as sturdy due to the rear overhang.  Mine and others posted here have had them break off with use.
Maybe adding an optional stud of some sort at the rear of the current slide grip "cuts" would help those that are having problems using the thumb and forefinger squeeze and pull method.  Care would be needed to not interfere with those who ride the safety.
The overhand method has the sight itself to brace the hand against slipping.

The sight helps on the overhand, but it is not very tall, I tried showing different ways to my fiance and she was having issues with all of them. That is what made me think up these ideas.

She has gotten better with practice though.
