9mm or .40s&w?

Just my imagination.... If there's a PCR in 9 and 40 caliber, which would you pick?  With every thing remains the same, alloy frame, size, and all that.  Recoil difference?  With modern ammo tech. , can the 9 have relatively close in stopping power with the 40?  If so, I don't see why not go for the 9 and practice for less....

Your questions concerning the choice are moot.  The PCR was never offered chambered for the .40S&W.  CZ did announce a couple of compact .40 caliber models some time back, but they were not introduced.  A recent posting in this forum has indicated that CZ has plans to offer these models sometime in 2003.  I plan to purchase one of the .40 cal models when they beome available.  There have been many on this forum that have expressed a desire for .40 or .45 caliber compact models.  Shoot safe, and have fun!

I find the question very valid...the 40 vs 9mm is as old as the .40 S&W round.  The gun well discuss later one but for the Calibers..... Its one I had myself...shooting mainly 40's for defensive purposes a while back I believed it to be the better round for that purpose...I still do if thats the only concern at hand.  The 9mm has come a long way in recent years..Corbon...some Federal/Speer/Remington/Winchester loads also have put the 9mm very close to the 40 in all data.

As far as the Comp Carry being released..this next year probably 3rd quarter.  The gun is based heavily on the PCR...same general gun just melted with the round trigger guard.  This further validates your question....the Comp is a 40 S&W PCR...in essence.

If you have the gun for strictly defensive purposes the 40 may be the way to go....the key for me is affordable practice ammo...I like to shoot my guns at least 2 - 3 times a month and its get down right expensive....

I am not convinced that 40 is vastly superior to 9mm in a defensive situation.  A handgun is a trade off of power for ease of handling and concealment, in a defensive situation almost all handguns are anemic when compared to a rifle, therefore the ability to hit what you aim at is very important.  What I like about the 9mm is the ability to buy really cheap practice ammo and shoot a lot.  I like to shoot at least once a week and I'd go broke shooting my 45, the 9mm lets me do that at a reasonable cost.

That said, I still might buy a 40 because it would be an excuse to buy another cz.

Agreed...the 9mm is very close to the 40 ballistically.  But whether its admitted or not...it is a superior round.  The 40 S&W has actually surpassed the 357 as the superior OSS round....like I sware by that...just a reference point.  The 40 has the speed of the 9mm and the weight of the 45..or the high and low ends of both...but its still a hell of a round.

The 9mm is close in a couple of loadings.....The NASTY, NASTY rnds...Rangers, Corbon, etc.........

The 40 is pushing a heavier bullet at or faster than the 9 and that should give it more umph. (umph is a technical rating ya know  )  

My like for the 9 is based on the economy of shooting it a lot.  We all know you have to shoot often and a lot to become proficient with a handgun.  If someone else was paying for the ammo I would most likely be shooting 45ACP or 10mm but I'm paying for the rounds so I've settled on 9mm to shoot most and the 45 to shoot once in awhile.

But if CZ comes out with a 40 compact that handles and looks like the PCR I will have to own one.

Honestly, Id like a 40/357 Sig PCR Framed Compact.  With front checkering 20 lpi..serrated/bobbed backstrap, commander style hammer, regular safety system with extended levers!, Novak style nights, Wolff springs stock ( : ) sharp edges on the frame/slide just smoothed a tad, Bevelled mag well, ambi everyfreakingthing, Hi cap 12 rnd min, front slide serrations (no slide area and wolff springs=help! ) match grade fitted barrels....hows that for starting out.....
It could be done to a CZ40B also.  If someone had one and wanted to nip and tuck it a little.  A bobbed CZ 40 grip would be kinda cool.....sorta.
