Problems with my CZ 85
« on: June 17, 2012, 08:55:54 AM »
Hi guys, I bought my CZ 85 way back in 2002 and never had any problems.  The last two times I went to the range my gun jammed after every 3rd magazine, and not even fully loaded average 8 bullets per mag.  What can the reason for this be?

How many rounds and what type of jam, feed, extraction or something else? It could be as easy as week mag or recoil springs.

Yes, more details would be helpful.

Sounds like it might be a mag spring issue if it is just starting now, and you've had the pistol for 10 years. Do you load and reload a lot?

That's what exhausts springs; you can keep mags empty or loaded for years without wear, but frequent compression/decompression is what wears them out.

Above is a link for Wolff Gunsprings, a great source of aftermarket springs.

Hi again,

Sorry I am still new with this forum will in future ensure more detail.  I think it might be the mag or the bullets.  My gun is always loaded because of the times we live in.  It happen now that when I release the magazine the top bullet is loose.  I have streched the spring in the magazine and went shooting last week Teusday 100 rounds no jams.  I normally just buy re-loaded bullets but is in the proses of buying a re-loader and the plan is to re-load myself.  My brother in law just bought a clock 19 gen 4 I shot with it, but I can promise you I will never sell my CZ

Stretching the magazine spring is a very temporary solution and it will fail again. You should replace the spring with a new one or replace the entire magazine. You implied that you depend upon your pistol for self-defense and you really can't afford to bet your life on a magazine that might work.

Please do be sure and get only Mec-Gar mags, the other brands aren't worth risking your life with either!

AMEN!  Whatever you do, springs or mags, do not get a Pro-Mag from Academy Sporting Goods or anywhere else.  My son did. DUUH.

When an autoloading firearm fails, it's almost always due to the magazine. It just isn't smart to cut corners on the magazine. I use only MecGar in my CZ pistols. If a better one comes out, I'll get that instead. I'm such a magazine fanatic that when a magazine fails due to anything other a replaceable part, I destroy it. Some people will keep it for range use but I'm not willing to risk the chance that I'll accidently pick it up at the wrong time.
