Couldn't this issue potentially cause the striker to follow the carrier?  The bolt carrier would be forcing the disconnector forward, before it pushes it down. This would cause the trigger to pull back and the sear to lower. If my rifle did this, I would either do what cchiang did, without shortening the disconnector, or replace it with a Bonesteel Arms disconnector.

Didn't seem to cause any kind of problems. The rifle performed flawlessly today, shot about 250 rounds.

Yep, finally got to fire it, quite a good feeling.

A lot of people weren't kidding about the heat. I definitely need to invest in a good glove just for my left hand.  ;D

It would depend on how bad it binds.

Makes you wish they'd put on something like the vented front hand guard and grip on the AMD65, doesn't it?

If you've ever shot an AMD without the foregrip, then you too would feel the need for a glove.

Note: I did know the foregrip was there for that reason, but dang it did it look sweet with just the vented handguard!

Actually I thought the vented front did quite well dissipating the heat? Compared with my other AKs it seems to?

Maybe I shot too fast, when I did that. Or maybe(more likely since you've more than one ak to compare) I left it in the sun too long. Its been a while, and I was comparing it to using the FAB handguards on the VZ, which would lend credence to the sun.

Definitely.  :D

I did however just got some goodies from SFRC ammo source up in canada. Including the NEA rail that seems to be out of stock everywhere.

I figured I should post in here instead of starting a new thread.

So, the upper handguard fits just fine, a little tight though (I'd rather it be tight than loose, you can always easily remove material).

The lower handguard is extra tight, and doesn't even slip on to the lower half. Is is just that the lower was made specifically for the original VZ58 and D-technik ones? or did I get a faultly handguard? The only way I can see this going on is if I file the inside part to fit.

EDIT: Nevermind. I noticed the overall length of the handguard was too long, so I slowly removed material off of the lip on the front edge using a file and dremel. It slipped on perfectly.

Interesting, I was about to suggest tap it in with a hammer, since both my FAB and Bonesteel lower hand guards were more of a pressure fit and needed the mallet  tap.

Who makes your vz, I got the impression your's wasn't a CZ or D-technic/CSA? Who else makes VZs? We're kinda limited on sources down here.

It's a Century build.

There was no way the handguard was going to go in with any amount of force without some kind of modification first. I filed it down just enough that It only needed a couple taps with a brass punch.
