Tightening Up a Folding Stock
« on: September 06, 2012, 07:40:47 PM »
Well, I got a folding stock for my Vz2008 but it's a bit looser than I would like.

Is there any way to tighten it up?  There is about 1" of wobble in the folded position, and about a ?" when extended.

Cheers!  M2

Need BIG honking screwdriver, brace the rifle between your knees, and tighten down on that big screw. It needs a LOT of torque to be tightened all the way down - Dan will tell you that as well.

The stock is attached to the receiver tight enough, it's the stock arm/pivot itself that's loose...

I think the pin causes wear to the stock and bracket. I don't think there is much you can do about that, other than shimming the pin somehow. The pin would still need to move freely in order to fold/unfold the stock.... Also, there is a little nub that wears down at the base of the stock, where it butts up with the bracket. You could add some metal there to remove some slop, but if you add too much the stock may not be straight or lock up properly. I would build it up, then file it down little by little until it is straight and tight.

You can try this stuff-- plasti dip.

Dip the "nub" of the stock into the dip and add one or more coats to thicken up that nub end and it will lock down. Yes it sticks to metal great. I found it to be an excellent fix for a loose stock.

I added a spot of weld to the tab on the folding piece(stock) then dressed it down till it was tight, but full lock-up, just my $.02...

Well, I was able to buy a much nicer/tighter folding stock from fellow forum member who lives nearby; therefore I will be putting this stock up for sale.

No pics at the moment as my son took the camera to Germany for a week, but it's as described...about 1" of wobble in the folded position (left/right and up/down), and about a ?" when extended.  I am sure someone with better knowledge of the internals or some engineering prowess could fix this, but it was beyond my level of expertise so I just replaced it.

Sixty bucks shipped is what I am asking.  Will consider a Slovak muzzle brake in partial trade.  PM me if interested.

Cheers!  M2
