Hey boblindeman have you had any issues with the brass deflecting back in front of the bolt when it is closing?  If you could post a picture of just the mount, so I could get a better idea of how the deflector is mounted to the optic mount, I would appreciate it.  thanks.

I have not have any issues at all, it worked perfect, and I have been shooting about 700 rounds with it.

As you can see in the pictures I have I tampered little with the deflectorshield, since I needed another scoperings to get a better eyerelief and also little lower scope.

You can see on the marks where the ejected shells will hit.

From the front to see the angle.

From behind.

From left side.
This scopemount is selled by CSA in Czech, so Czechpoint should be able to get them to the States.

Well, the tampering is manmade, I had to adjust bcz when I put the scope lower, it made the bolt scrape against it, you can see the scratch.

So I did an easy fixing with some tools, just to get the bolt free from scratching.

The only marks you get from the shells is visible as dots in some pictures. The shells dont even get damaged at all.

Hey, boblindeman, thanks for the pictures.  I had mounted my homemade brass deflector under the Picatinney rail on the optic mount.  I'll have to try mounting it at the base of the mount (as yours is mounted).  I painted the underside of my deflector to see where the brass was hitting the deflector.  I was surprised how far back on the deflector the brass dinged it, almost to where the front of the scope mount is.  One good thing is that I did not see any dings from the brass hitting the scope.

These two together, rock solid.

I will suggest a SHORT optic, to prevent what is described here. Right now I am using a Barska Electro Scope 4 x 28 on the 5.56mm vz-58, and it works well...but I'd rather have a 2-7 with more eye relief.

Do I need to have both the side rail and the short optic mount installed? I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable drilling and tapping the holes.. Did you do this yourself?

Well, I just got off the phone with the representative for Canada. I hadn't realized that the gun came pre-drilled and taped! Looks like I won't need to do any sort of drilling after all!  :)

There ya go! The Barska Electro Scope wasn't the greatest, as it takes some effort to line up the correct eye relief, but it beats nothing, making a good hunting scope where I should have some time...hopefully. If I were to use this for 3 gun I might want a better scope with more forgiving eye relief.
