CZ 97B and Hollow Points...
« on: November 14, 2012, 09:00:39 PM »
Ok, I've got a possible dumb question; Are there any problems running hollow points through the CZ 97B?

I've been shooting non-hollow points through my CZ 97B, but have yet to run any hollow points through it. I've noticed more than one post and/or comment regarding jamming or other issues with hollow points.

Currently my gun is with David @Cajun Gun Works getting some mods, otherwise I'd have gone out to the range and found out if mine has any issues.

Here is your answer.  CZ redesigned the 97 series feedramp.  The newer version, on the left, has a much lower feedramp, is shallower, and the entrance of the chamber is "throated" for HP's.  The feedback I have gotten from customers with the newer style feedramp has been overwhelming positive.  If the new style feedramp were to be professionally polished (I do this on all 97's) the feeding of most anything should be excellent.

Nice shot, David.

I see the difference in the newer style, but is the older style (like mine) not correct for running hollow points through it?

I find the Hornady critical defense/zombie rounds work great due to the polymer tip in either barrel

Your results may vary, but I have yet to see an issue.

Best of luck

I've been shooting Silvertips for awhile now.  Never had any problems.

It can vary considerably from one pistol to another. Polishing the feed ramp will almost always help but won't guarantee reliable feeding of hollow points. The only way to know is to get some and try them.

I've never had a problem with mine, even shooting some huge old hp's that have given me fits in a few other 45's, of course I also polish the feed ramp on every pistol I buy first thing...

I had the new style feed ramp and although hollow points would go into battery, I found the round on top of the mag which had been repeatedly chambered had a much shorter OAL since the forced involved pushed the bullet deeper into the case.  .45 compression load...

That's something you have to watch out for on most semi autos after repeated chambering and unloading. Some ammo is more sensitive than others to it as well, depending on bullet type and crimp.

Does anyone know if CZ is planning a lighter-weight (polymer or alloy) version of the CZ 97?  I like the size of the 97 but not the weight.

The only changes to the CZ97 for 2013 are different grips and fiber optic sights.
