Guys were lucky ol' man wasn't home, aware and prepared...could have been very ugly for the crims...One more bit of proof that going after legal guns is a ridiculous notion that will only help the bad guys

I saw that. Apparently in NY this is "public information", other wise I would demand the newspaper senior staff would be arrested as accomplices.

Here's a story with a few more details.

http://www.newsmax.com/US/burglary-guns-map-White/2013/01/14/id/471270

Quote
Police in White Plains said at least two burglars broke into a home but were unable to open the safe, Newsday reports. The gun safe contained legally owned weapons, and one suspect was taken into custody.

Not only a legal gun owner but a responsible legal gun owner.

Quote
The gun owner, a man in his 70s, wasn't home when the burglary occurred, and he told Newsday Sunday he wouldn't comment while the investigation continues.

Heck no he won't comment. Man just got himself a newspaper and he knows it! I wouldn't say a word either. I'm sure I could find plenty of lawyers willing to talk for me though. Some would likely take the case pro bono simply because of all the publicity they'd get. This fellas got it made.

I doubt it.   remember where this happened.   I think an attorney would have a tough time sueing the paper, not to say they wouldn't try and they would probably try on a contingency basis given the publicity involved.  this guy was a victim once from the paper and twice from the burgler.  however I dont't see him getting any justice out of this one.  I hope i'm wrong.
