new guy asking about a CZ40
« on: February 16, 2007, 07:24:40 AM »
Hello everyone,  I'm normally a lurking reader, (but i did post a question last year about my EAA witness poly....which i traded for something else!)

But I curious about the cz40 from the recent CDNN catalog.  I usually dont but a pistol without at least giving it a fondle in the gunstore, but the price is tempting.  And I admit one of the reasons i miss the  witness poly was the grip "feel".  Can assume that the grip is "similar" to the witnes poly, only in a straight backstrap form.

I put quotes around the word similar, simply because I know im asking a subjective question, and it will be difficult to give an answer.

Another option i have to go to the one shop where i think they still have a cz2075rami and fondle that to give me a comparison.  Because the cz40 and the 2075 look derived from the same basic platform.

P.S. the biggest reason im considering the cz40 is that on the money from my tax refund set aside for fun time, the CDNN price will leave more room for ammo and mags

Any help would be appreciated, Guys!

The grip feel is way different!  It is more like a Colt 1911, 45 ACP pistol grip than anything else.

Still, it is not a bad thing!  The double action, single action trigger is very nice.  The rounded trigger guard is nice.  The controls are nice.  The alloy frame is nice for weight control.  The pistol points very nicely.  Felt recoil in not bad.  Sights are highly visable.  Magazines made for the CZ 75B 40 S&W will work in the CZ 40B!  (EAA Witness/Tanfoglio 40S&W magazines will NOT snap in and work in the CZ 40B.)

It is a great gun.  That is a great price!

Yours,
Bob Troxell.

The grip feel is different, but the grip angle is complementary, the 40B points similarly to the 75Bs for me. All in all the 40B is one of the best deals out there and a real steal at that price. I've had 2 of them for a couple years now.

I find the grip of the CZ40B makes it a little harder for me to reach the DA trigger then the CZ75 series, but other then that, the gun points well, has good sights, and shoots just as well as my other CZ pistols.

When you mentioned 1911,  I remembered a norinco 1911a1 that i had many years ago.  In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have let that one go, because except for the arch mainspring housing, it fit real good in my hand.

In the end the price will end up being the deciding factor, cause i want buy some blasting ammo at the same time.

There's a few other shops i'm going to browse before i buy. After going to work this morning, i remember that at least one shop had some cz's, and i can't remember if it was a rami or the cz100 poly frame.

Also, CDNN has 12rd.mec-gar mags for the cz75 40s&w for $18.99.  Can i assume these will work in addition to the "extra 10rd mags for $29.99"?

Yes those mags will work in the 40B. The baseplate will not fit to the grip as smoothly (there will be a little gap), but the mags should function fine.

Would someone kindly post a pic of a 40B with the 12-rnd MecGar magazine (with MecGar baseplate attached) in the gun?  I want to see exactly how big the unsightly gap between gun frame and mag base is going to be before I order some of these mags.

Thanks,

If the mag has a thin metal baseplate, as opposed to the molded plastic one that is designed for the 40B, the baseplate will be flush with the back part of the grip where the mainspring retaining plug is. The gap aroung the rest of the grip will then be on the order of 1/8-3/16". I personally think it is barely noticable.

Well, i went and ordered the cz40b.  the gun shop guy had a bit more markup than i was expecting,  but i think he was hitting me for the shipping cost(and marking up that, cause CDNN has $9.95 flat rate shipping)

The price I payed was $340, plus $70 for 2 extra mags, tax/$8 WI DOJ Fee, which totaled out at $441

I should be able to get it Saturday.  Plus on saturday, I'll be able to go to a local gunshow to get more ammo deals!
