CZ-USA Gas Piston CZ 712
« on: June 24, 2013, 10:20:38 AM »
First day to the range with the CZ 712 (hadn't changed any parts at this point) it ran flawlessly. I had two failures to eject out of 50 rounds and I was using target loads and low recoil buckshot loads.

Second time out to the range I replaced the original gas piston with CZ-USA's and proceeded to have a lot of failures to feed, using the same low recoil ammo.

After inspecting the two pistons more I noticed the CZ-USA one fits much more loosely in it's seat compared to the orginal, which fits snug.

Could this be the reason I was having failures to feed? Not enough pressure to push the action back if the loose fit causes a loss pressure in the desired direction?

Well if anyone is still wondering, it's the piston.

I finally got to the range again; used the original Turkish piston and it cycled everything without fail.

I'm probably going to call CZ USA and tell them their piston isn't to spec I hopes that gets fixed for future users.

You would think CZ USA would import the correct piston.

Thanks for the update, glad you got it working.

Oh I think there is some confusion haha.

The CZ 712 get's imported and sold as it comes, which is all Turkish parts (Huglu is the manufacturer). The original piston fits properly and the shotgun functions perfectly as it comes stock.

CZ-USA makes an aftermarket piston, stamped 'CZ-USA', it's stronger and machined better. However, it does not fit as well as the original part in the 712.

I called them today and let them know. Hopefully that gets fixed, but I doubt it will; based on my conversation with them.

Didn't realize CZ made replacement parts for the Huglu imports.

Was looking for replacement O-Rings for my 912 & 920 and CZ-USA has no parts listed for their shotguns on their webstore. Only accessories, Stocks and choke tubes.

I hope CZ gives you a refund.

I shot a friends new 712 Utility last week and I really like it. Keep the gas holes clear and she'll shoot everything and everything. If you get some FTE the 2 most likely culprits are the gas holes and the O-Ring.

Good luck with the 712.

They don't list a lot of stuff it seems. I found out about it from other forums and what not. Just one of those things you have to call about I think.

My 712 is in perfect working order now that I put the original piston back in, so I'm happy with it.

When I called them today I was kind of expecting them to tell me to send their piston back so they could at least look at it or send me a replacement, but no such response.
