So I have a question of those of you with vastly more experience than I...

Before getting this IDF vz58 specific stock, I had ordered an ATI Fiberforce stock for AK's w/ milled receivers based on discussions with ATI people.  That was the one they said to get. Well it arrives yesterday, and it takes all of 30 seconds to realize that there is absolutely NO POSSIBLE WAY that it is going to be installed on any vz58.  I don't know what the heck ATI was thinking.

Anyway, came across an "adapter"  at Krebs that's supposed to allow Yugo AKs to take ACE folders (or something or other).  And it looks like this:

Now, maybe it's just me, but doesn't it look like all that does is turn the Yugo receiver well into a vz58 stock receiver???  It's even got that same messed up bolt!  Then why does everything I read and every person I talk to tell me how difficult it is to get an aftermarket stock installed on a vz unless it's been specifically designed for the vz???

I'd think you could remove any stock's tang that goes into the vz receiver farther than intended and then drill a hole in the stock and slam that bleep bolt home?  Why is that so much rocket science?

If its not made for the VZ its not going to fit properly. And there are plenty of sources for VZ stocks and stock adapters. Check the link below.

+1 on Stormwerkz. I'm using their stock adapter and folding mechanism on my VZ-58 with an Ace stock. Great stuff.

I guess my confusion stems from the fact that each of the adapters is basically a replica of what is already the face of the vz receiver stock well...a bolt hole.  Some details may change, but that is the gist from what I can tell.

Of course, I have been shooting a rifle, of any kind, for about three months now.  I go forth with unchallenged Newb status fully intact, and with a firm grasp of my own utter ignorance and and an almost total lack of experience, I proudly defer to those with some actual data upon which to stand.

But still, it just seems like as long as the grip bolt holes on the underside of the receiver line up when the stock is completely in position, then you should be able to simply mark where the receiver stock well bolt hole would line up with the stock and very simply just drill a hole into the stock at that point.  All that would be left to do is to get the right sized bolt, screw the two together, and Viola! you'd be done.   :o

The big setback I have seen is that the distance from the grip bolt hole on the bottom to the rear of the receiver is not always copacetic with that same distance on a fully in place stock.  But can't that be taken care of for the most part with Dremeling?  ???

There is also a recessed slot on the receiver that the stock needs to match up with. you can see the nub in the picture, the one on the right side.

Also, the adapter/stock is what give the stock angle

I was back on Stormwekz, and all the've got is a slightly different hole in the flat rear of the receiver.  Which is my point, that's what the VZ starts out with!  So you can either change the hole the stock screws in to, or you can change the bolt that the stock gets screwed with!

Anyone could do either or both.  I'm sure I could go to Home Depot and find something that a std milspec tubewould fit in to...Why is this difficult, or rare, or worth anything more than $15 INSTALLED???

And one of the things they are FEATURING   http://stormwerkz.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/SA-VUL-01B.jpg

Which is just the VZ receiver stock well with a few more holes.

So I am puzzled as to why it is that so many seem genuinely elated when they come across something, ANYTHING that allows them to attach some stock that they could have attached all along if they had only gone toithe plumbing section at Home Depot?  And many are thrilled that they get to pay well over $100 for the priviledge?

I know I am an Ignorant Newb, trust me, I know how little I know.  But this seems ridiculous..  I'll bet if you gave ,me ANY stock, and a weekend in a decent workshop  shop, I could have it on the vz58 by Monday  morn

The biggest reason is the nub on the stock adapter that  Rowe-75 mentioned.  It keeps it rock solid secure from rotating under recoil and use, which a straight up screw through the hole would not.  Also, they can allow you to get either the factory angle, or the straight inline with the barrel, which many are used to thanks to the AR-15 being so prevalent.

That height adjustable adapter it helpful for people that are trying to get to a more natural cheek weld to line up with their optics or sights with the common ACE style stocks.

I have the Stormwerk adapter for an inline ar stock and it has held up to several thousand rounds and more than a few tumbles.

None of us are stopping you from home-brewing your stock adapter/stock fabrications.  By all means go out and do it.

I ended up choosing the stock I did because it was a factory/official upgrade.  And I plain old wanted to.

You constantly calling yourself a newb and inexperienced is kinda condescending.  Especially when you follow it with how all we would have to do is go to Home Depot and drill a screw somewhere.  Do it.  Show us guys who are elated to spend $100's of dollars on something that could be done by spending a few bucks at Home Depot and drilling and dremeling our rifle that we are total tards for doing it.  At least, that is how your posts sound.
