Spring Upgrade for 40P
« on: February 06, 2007, 09:14:52 AM »
My 40P has about 200 rnds through it and shoots great other than the fact that the slide lock wont catch after the last cycle. Since it does catch when the slide is racked with an empty mag in, I think it must be a spring problem.

I want to try extra power mag springs and a different recoil spring; maybe shorten the dumb spacer a little also.

Any suggestions on which springs to get from Wolff?

I use +10% mag springs and a trimmed to fit 22# recoil spring. IMO if you replace the stock flat coil recoil spring with a wire coil Wolff spring you'll also need to replace the short poly guide rod with a full length one. The factory spring helps keep the poly rod centered so it hits the hole in the front of the slide. Without that guidance the poly rod might get crunched by the slide on recoil.

Personally I'd leave the spacer alone.

Hey Jeff,

Does Wolff market springs specifically for the 40P?  If not, which springs for which CZ models does one install? And do they need to be customized?

No they do not sell specifically for the 40P. Use springs for the full-size CZ75/EAA Witness. The recoil springs need to be full-sized ones trimmed to fit as the 40B/P slide is in between a full-size and a compact in length.

Thanks Jeff!

I found the EAA Witness/CZ75 listings on the wolf site.

One thought/question...

When the stock flat design recoil spring is replaced with a Wolff coil spring, does the slide-to-frame bushing stay concentric and travel properly around what I'm assuming is a narrower diameter Wolff spring?

Thanks again.

Actually, The outside diameter of the Wolff spring is pretty close to the diameter of the flat coil spring, and the Wolff spring will actually expand slightly in diameter as it's compressed to fit snugly in the hole in the spacer bushing to keep it aligned.
