40P or p01?
« on: December 09, 2006, 10:34:50 PM »
I was offered a trade today; a p01 for my 40P.  Is this a trade?  I know the p01 is a more expensive and more popular piece, but it is REALLY HEAVY and other than that, I can't tell much difference.  ANy advice on the trade?  My inclination is not to trade/

If you asked me I'd say keep the 40P.  My 40P is more accurate than my P-01 (ok, it's just by a little bit) and my personal preference leans towards the 40 caliber round.

Having said that, the P-01 is my constant companion as my preferred carry gun.  If you want a P-01 in the future, then now  is the time to start saving.  :)

Do the trade and then buy another CZ-40P.  In essence, you'll have a P01 for the price of a CZ-40P!

I wouldn't think that it would be much heavier.  They share the same frame and both have steel slides.  In fact, I would have thought that the 40P might have outweighed the P-01 because of the larger bore.  Hmmm...interesting.

If it's that much heavier are you certain that it's a P-01 you're being offered? The Compact .40 is almost identical to the P-01 except for having a steel frame instead of the P-01's and 40P's lighter aluminum.
The bold type giveth, the fine print taketh away.

I didnt even notice what it says on the side.  I looked grabbed the gun when he saw mine and offered the swap for the 40P, it looked clean and everything seemed to work when I fired it, but it was MUCH heavier than mine. He called it a p-01.  I know it has the same frame, but could it be the p-01 is steel framed, and my 40p is alloy?  I didn't like the weight or the caliber, but I thought that if it shot better, had a better trigger, and was worth more it might be worth swapping and getting a 40p when funds became flush.  thanks for the advice

I'm repeating some of the info above:

Do you have a P-01, or a Compact?

If its 9mm, its a P-01.  It shouldn't be that much heavier (if at all.)

If the new gun is a .40, its a 75B Compact -- as they don't make a .40 version of the P-01 yet.

The Compact in .40 comes with a steel frame, and that would make it noticeably heavier.  The .40 Compact has the same frame design as the P-01, but has a safety rather than the P-01's decocker.  The steel frame makes recoil a bit more manageable, too -- so the weight is offset a little by better shootability.  If you don't plan to carry everyday, its a non-issue.

Either way, in terms of value -- you came out ahead -- if you ever want to sell.
