SAR B6P 9mm and Witness .40 S&W P-S
« on: September 30, 2013, 08:58:50 AM »
I was looking at both of these clones the other day and saw how similar they were.  The slide stop pins were identical, and the slides appeared to be except the B6P is a compact, so the slide isn't as long. So I decided to see if they were interchangeable.  I put the compact SAR 9mm slide on the Witness .40 and it fit perfectly.  I cycled thru a mag full of ammo with no problem.  The safety works as it should, and the slide stop holds the slide open on the last round.  Then I tried to put the Witness .40 slide on the SAR 9mm frame.  It fit, but not perfect.  The slide stays open when you rack it back no matter what, and you have to use the release.  So that won't work.  I have a .22 conversion kit for the Witness, so I tried it on the SAR 9mm.  Now that was a perfect fit.  So now, I can shoot a .40 or a 9mm with the Witness, as well as the .22.  My wife can shoot my .22 with her 9mm.  I thought that was interesting that they were interchangeable.  But I guess I shouldn't be since the SAR is a clone of the Witness, which is a clone of the CZ.  I don't have a CZ to see if anything is interchangeable.

At one time, Sarsilmaz and Tanfoglio were partnered to produce handguns for the area market, and a lot of design and tech was transferred to Sarsilmaz.  When the Partnership dissolved, Sarsilmaz made some design changes and marketed their Pistols everywhere.

In one case in particular, the SAR K2-45, the design has evolved considerably with features from many other handguns, so much as to be a great design in it's own right.

As a newbie to CZs and their clones, I'd be interested in learning about some of the improvements that SAR has made to the Tanfoglio design.

Not sure they could be called "improvements", but more like Sarsilmaz chose to use a different design paradigm for some functions.

jwcoo7,

Thanks for the detailed reply. I was aware that the SAR had a forged frame, but the rest of your post is new information for me.

Now if someone with both will tell us if replaceable Witness or CZ sights will work on a K2 45

I have both, but I'm very unwilling to remove the Rear Sights on any of my Witnesses to find out, as they are very tight into their Dovetails.
You actually NEED an Arbor Press to remove them.

That said, I have been thinking of trying to find a Fixed Novak Style Sight for my K2-45 and K2P-9, and I'm thinking the LPA Rear Sight that Tanfoglio uses might well fit.
Suppose I need to contact EAA and find out.

I have replaced the rear and front sight on my son's witness match 9 and ai have removed the sights from a K2 45 acp that I refinished did not encounter any major difficulties doing so. I have not experimented with replacement sights on the K2. On the witness we used a Henning's rear with a fiber optic front. On the K2 I would like a fiber optic front as well I could live with blacking out the rear.

Please see if the old Witness sights can fit the K2.   No need to make them permanent, but if they fit, we all have a solution.   I sent my CZ off to Matthew Mink and it's coming back soon with new sights and a trigger job.    I am going to see if the leftover front sight will fit the K2.   If it does, I am going to toss a night sight on the front.   I like the rear on the K2 well enough that I may leave it with the spots blacked out.

I have sent an email to EAA regarding Rear Sight choices for the SAR K2-45 and SAR K2P-9. Will post their response when they get back to me.
