happy newby !
« on: December 30, 2013, 07:11:13 PM »
Hi !  Just got a lightly used VZ 2008 and am liking it.  Was wondering if anyone makes a mag loader ( similar to the Uplula) ??  I have the Uplula for my AR and also for my handgun, so I'm kind of a fan !

Does anyone make something similar ??   Any way to modify the AK Uplula to make it work ??   Suggestions ??

  Thanks, mike

Congratulations on your VZ2008. I recently got one and am loving it. Sorry I can't help you with your other questions.

You could try modifying an uplula to work, but it doesn't seem to fit mine, and I only have one so don't want to ruin it for an experiment.

With good stripper clips (being Soviet Federation surplus, not China [new or surplus]), that method is an option too.

I'm in the midst of modifying an AK Cammenga EasyLoader to work with my VZ mags.  Got about 75% done, but had to put that project aside to attend to some other pressing issues.
Hope to finish it in the coming weeks.

Not much invested in it... got the loader for $15.30 shipped to my door.  Works great for 223 and 9mm AR mags, as well as FAL... figured it'd be a fine piece of kit for the VZ, if I could get it to work.

Let us know if you get something figured out !

I'm going to try an Upula (AK model) and see if I can modify it enough to work, too.      mike

I *think* you should be able to just dremel a slit for that rear latch, but might require an addition slit on the (looking at rear of tool) rear left corner of the loader.  Similar to how for AK there's the latch flap...

It feels super tight on my VZ mags as well, so might require some sanding/filing along front to fit as well.  Not sure though.

Well, I spent about 30 minutes using a Dremel tool on an AK model Uplula mag loader.  It's not pretty , but it works !! ;D

There were a number of places that required trimming , but I just went slowly and took a little off and then tried it for fit....then trim and then fit, etc, etc.....

It works fine, but I have to hold it in place when loading....it doesn't snap in place like it used to.  In hindsight, I can see a way to trim it so that it would still stay snapped in place....   Maybe when I lose this one ( like I usually do ) !!

Sorry but I'm not clever enough to do that...... :P

All four sides need to be trimmed to varying degrees....

The front needs to have a vertical groove to fit the front "seam ??"  and you need to take a little off the bottom front.

The sides need to be trimmed so that the loader can be lowered enough so that the arms of the loader will press the cartridges down enough.

The back needs most of the trimming .....

Those really are great Vids.

Modding an Uplula does seem to be a little intimidating - lots of cutting or dremel work to make it fit.

Great videos I like the stripper and board method.
My question is it any quicker/easier than just loading the mag in the first place as you still do need to load the stripper clips.

I have not had any issues loading my vz58 mags by hand but can see how carrying stripper clips might be easier since they take up less room.

I've been using the Stripper Clips from my SKS and that's been okay, so far.  Might have to look into modifying an AK Uplula.

I'm definitely not some sort of craftsman.  It's really not very hard. You just want to go slowly and check fit frequently.  The worst you could do is waste $25 !!   I readily admit wasting more money and having less to show for it !! ;D   Although I haven't checked , I'd bet that mine won't work on an AK anymore.

I used a Dremel tool and am not sure that I would be able to do it without one, fwiw....   mike

A Dremel, I most certainly have!  Will probably order a separate Uplula, as I have one for my AK47.  I'm sure I can manage the Modification.
