CZ competition hammer performance differences
« on: January 04, 2014, 04:33:42 AM »
I know CZC has some of the low wide comp hammers for the Shadows. Now the comp hammers on my two SP-01 Shadow targets are wider at the bottom but narrow midway towards the top of the hammer. The CZC low wide comp hammers seem to maintain the width from bottom to top which I'm assuming is .315 hammer width. Does that added mass help with a more reliable ignition at the same time will slow the momentum of the action of the hammer? Which is better? Now my SP-01 Shadow"Gold or non designated Adam Tyc Edition" has a gold ring hammer that takes the full width of the notch from top to bottom, haven't shot it yet so I can't say yet of any performance differences.

Basically when the Comp hammer was first designed it was made to fit all the pistols, so the thinner hammer dimension was used. Because most CZ 75 had the narrower slide slot.

When the Shadows were made they used a larger hammer slot in the slide and hence increased the size of the hammer but the comp hammer was never made wider to suit.
Basically the extra mass was not necessary, (we are talking about very little weight)

The low hammer were specifically designed for use on the Shadow Target, because of the Low Mount Adjustable sight, the "High" hammer could hit the lower portion of the blade of the sight.

So when we needed a  new hammer for the Tactical Sport we had the factory "push" the dimension of the hammer a  little thicker to give a  little more mass for the SA only pistol and to make it a little more aesthetically pleasing.

So effectively you can now choose the hammer to match the rear slot size and height. Depending on what rear sight is on the pistol.

When did this hammer change take place? Are you installing these on new production SP-01 Shadow Targets? My 2nd SP-01 Shadow Target is a newer production I acquired a couple months ago and still had the narrow comp hammer. That sounds like I'll want to change to the wide low comp hammer on my SP-01 Shadow Target that I have converted  to SAO as it would improve ignition due to the increased mass and plan to install a lighter hammer spring. One thing I noticed the feature list on the non rail Shadow T that it has an extended firing pin is this the same for the SP-01 Shadow Target? Thanks Angus.

Nothing Changed, we continued to put narrowed hammers in all or almost all of the custom guns that we make.
The longer firing pin and lighter spring will make more difference then the minimal difference in the mass of the hammer.
