IWB Kydex - How on earth?
« on: July 19, 2015, 06:42:03 PM »
Hey guys,

I have had two OWB holsters, a leather OWB slide guard (75B) and a kydex OWB Bravo Concealment BCA (Sphinx SDP Compact).  Recently, I bought some clips to try the BCA inside the waistband.  I can't figure out how to make it work.  I have IWB clips for a 2 magazine carrier (left) and the pistol (right).

I've tried basically everything from 1 O'clock to 6 O'clock with the pistol.  1-2 seemed to work ok, but I'm not comfortable with that position for carry (and the canted holster wouldn't really work well). 3-4 is basically putting a rigid Kydex holster right on my hip (not comfortable whatsoever).  5-6 seemed ok, but not with the magazine carrier on the opposite side.  It leaves a huge gap in my pants at the small of my back.  I've played around with the height of my waistband on my pants, but I can't find much that is comfortable.

Thoughts?  I'm probably just going to go back to OWB since that's pretty comfy by comparison.  I'm relatively skinny (31" waist), but an athletic build.  I seem to conceal best OWB at 4-5 O'clock.

I've never been able to get used to kydex IWB,,,,, to be honest, I didn't give it a lot of time.  Leather is just so much more comfortable to me.

It usually takes 4-5 o'clock position to make IWB work. Right on the hipbone at 3:00 works fine for OWB but not so well for IWB.

Also being on the thinner side like you are, it doesn't take much to put a gap in your beltline. Us fuller figure guys don't have that problem but we do have our share of other problems.

Also a wider holster like Alien Gear, CrossBreed and the like might work for you better too.

Most of us have a drawer full of holsters trying to find the right one.

I will second the alien gear holsters for inside the waist carry. Same build as you and when carrying larger pistols, the alien gear leather backing spreads the load out and takes away some of the gap between holster and waist band. They have greatly improved their product quality and switched out the hardware for parts that look more professionaly made and not cut down fuel line tubing. Great customer service and bullet proof warranties. Just wear it around the house for a week or two and it will start to break in nicely. Plus if you change guns, they offer shell trade in programs that let you trade or keep your kydex shell and get a new one for way less than a new holster would cost.

30" waist.  I use a Safariland adjustable cant ITW kydex that has a suede-like coating.
My pistol is smaller (Sig 239),  but 11:00 and 1:00 work fine,  especially while driving.
A LEO here recommended  it to me,  and he was right for my pistol.

I'm a little late to the party, but ALL of my holsters including those for my CZ 75BD, CZ 75D PCR, and CZ P-09 are from http://www.pantherconcealment.com in Jacksonville, FL. Usually worn at about 4:30 give or take a bit.
