Any SAO SP01's out there?
« on: November 24, 2013, 12:24:38 AM »
Just curious if anyone's got any SAO SP01's? How is it compared to stock? Considering keeping my first SP-01 and converting it to SAO. Wondering if I could run it like that in competitions as well.

With SAO, you will be shooting Limited/Limited-10 Minor.  It wouldn't be as competitive, but it would still be fun.  The IDPA rules on the FLDC are still unclear, so I don't know if you'd be able to run it in ESP

ESP would need to be a DA/SA setup, but can start in SA with the safety engaged.

plenty of SP01 with SAO triggers, those come through the shop all the time.  what ever you do to the trigger, you will want to fit up a competition hammer from CZC or CGW. hammer choice and trigger choice will determine what sports and divisions you will be legal for.

If you install a short reset disconnector you can run in SA and have the same trigger feel as a SAO gun. Only difference is a curved trigger vs. flat trigger.  You still retain DA function so you stay legal in most divisions.

That's why I was considering keeping the standard SP-01, because there are more production drop in parts to keep it a production legal drop in parts. Most production competition parts have to be machines to work on the decocker so that killed it being standard production class, went ahead and went with the race hammer and screw it, I'll run what I can. I'd rather have the gun I want.

The CGW race hammer will take you out of Production division. The CZC comp hammer would be legal for USPSA/IPSC

I'll be sending the standard SP-01 to you for that, talked to Rob via email. Gotta wait until tax return though. Now I know the ACCU shadow bushings are considered a production part, but since it sounds like they have to machine the gun to install them, I'm assuming it will no longer be considered a production drop in part? And I'm also assuming that going with the fitted barrel will kill that option as well since it's not a production part. So if I'm accurate in my assumptions I'll probably get the standard SP-01 done by you and keep it production legal and send the tactical your way for the threaded barrel (threads cut and recrowned) and ACCU shadow bushing to top it off. Limited on what I can buy in California and a pain in the ass to bring in guns via SSE so gonna build the guns I have up to what I'd want. Thanks again for all the help, direction and feed back.

I am almost done converting a sp-01 to SAO only. If only I didn't bend the hammer strut trying to remove the factory hammer pin, I'd be done by now.  New hammer strut is on the way!!
