Test Fire Targets? Average Group Size?

Heya guys,

Quick question.

I have two P09's in my possession right now.  The first one is a 40k serial numbered gun and the test target showed a 73MM group size.

The latest gun i got featured a 52.6mm group size...that is TWO INCHES...Holy mechanical accuracy batman...

What are you guys seeing on your test targets?

Anyone know how they are test fired? Is the gun put in a fixture or is it held by a human (from a bench rest, or?)

Mine is 101mm but there was one flyer.  Without the flyer it would be about 70mm.

I've not been able to fire mine yet so I can't really judge for myself.

From what I understand test targets are only to prove function not accuracy.

Test targets on my two P-09's were not extraordinary.  Shooting them at a range at 25/50/100/200 yards with good ammo has proven the guns are exceptionally accurate.

Im just curious about this.  I dont think it translates into much of anything considering how well Joe L can shoot these things.

I still think that the guns ARE exceptionally mechanically accurate for a sub 500 dollar pistol.

This 52.6mm test target blew me away.

The P-09 is exceptionally accurate, and to extend Joe's point, it's a matter of finding the right load (bullet weight/configuration, powder, powder weight) with either factory or hand loads to find that sweet spot. Once you've done that, you have a pistol that's accurate when practicing good shooting technique. The fun part is that when I'm doing my job and shooting the right ammo, this pistol is as accurate as I want at any distance and compares nicely with any other pistol.

Agreed,

Im just a numbers nerd and would love to see what the averages are.  While i dont think a 1.5 inch mechanically accurate gun makes a shooter, i think a 1.5 inch mechanically accurate gun CAN help a shooter like Joe L do THAT much better.

The "dispersion area" on my target says 43mm. Is that what we're talking about?

Magsz, I understand your interest. Along that line of thinking, I'd like to know whether the CZs are test fired strictly for function without a device such as a Ransom Rest or other method of support used to determine whether the group sizes and relative POA are meaningful. If they are simply fired for function by a human using free hand with no support (rest), then I would contend that the group sizes and POA of the test targets are meaningless other than demonstrating that the pistol functions as built. It could simply be that some CZ test fire technicians are more accurate than others.

It's likely someone on this forum has this information.
