Has anyone replaced their Compacts springs yet. Recoil? Hammer? Firing pin?

Sure...mainly recoil and mag springs.  My compact got the firing pin spring replaced with the spring that came with my recoil spring...Wolff sends you a freebie.  I later found that you really dont need to replace the f/pin spring on guns with the Firing Pin Block...oh well.  I run the 20# recoil springs in my old Compact and now, my PCR..both function perfectly, reduce recoil by a fair amount and I antisipate will be better on my gun when shooting hot ammo.  An 18# weight spring may be a good choice for hotter ammo also.

It is a good idea to replace that spring when you replace the recoil spring. It will help prevent the firing pin from beating against the firing pin retaining pin which has been known to break. I HIGHLY reccommend replacing the firing pin spring when you replace the recoil spring.

I still use the factory #17 recoil spring with no problem. My original lasted about 6000 rounds. I don't reccommend you wait that long. I'd replace it every 3000.

Bubba'

I've replaced the hammer return spring on my Compact.  I used a Wolffe spring and as I recall, it was a Ruger MkII spring, but I wouldn't swear to that.  I don't recall the poundage, but it was lighter than the original.  It's made all the difference in the world in the way that gun shoots.  It's about 4 1/2 lbs DA and 3 lbs SA.  It a pure pleasure to shoot now.  I recommend it.

I did the same thing on my 83 and now it's the smoothest, sweetest trigger you ever pulled.  It wasn't bad before, but it's absolutely GREAT now.

I recently tried a 17# hammer/main spring in my PCR..now mind you it has a different hammer than the Compact..its lighter.  The OEM spring is a 19# from what I understand.
The trigger parts/transfer bar were polished a tad at the same time and WOW...now thats a nice trigger.  Its better than my CZ83's and that says everything.
I took it to a range and tried her out....NOT GOOD.  Light strikes from every mag..every type of ammo.  Bummer total bummer.  A guy that was with me said..just put a lighter firing pin spring in it....Hmmmmm NOT!  Anyway...I was just doing R and D anyway..for now the stocker is back in and is back to 100% function.  Its amazing what a difference 2#'s of spring weight can translate into reduced percieved trigger pull, simply amazing.  Its also amazing what a problem it can be when your gun doesnt go off when you need it too...especially on a CCW.

Yes, for 100% reliability, I highly recommend keeping the 17# hammer spring. I have tried many different combinations between hammer and firing pin spring, and the only one I was happy with were the stock weights.

According to Wolff's tech guy/manager Dave, the OEM spring in the Compact/PCR is a 19# unit.  It wouldnt surprise me if the PCR is a heavier spring as it has a lighter hammer and different hammer/sear design.  When I tried the 17# spring in my PCR I had light strikes from every type/kind/maker of ammo I had.  7 different brands.  My thoughts are 2#'s just isnt that much difference in the 2 spring weights.  I think the PCR has a heavier spring to compensate for the different setup.  But cant say for sure.
