How to carry compact
« on: September 14, 2014, 01:13:37 PM »
Hi New here I am about to buy a steel 75 compact can I safely carry the gun with the hammer lowered all the way down or does it have to be carried in the half cock position?
Thanks

It has a firing pin block safety. The firing pin can not move forward unless the trigger is actually squeezed. Carry with the hammer down is perfectly safe.

While my Hoosier friend is correct, why would you want to do that?

Carry it at half cock, where you have more leverage with your trigger finger for the first DA shot.

Getting the hammer all the way down is riskier than lowering it to half-cock.

Once the hammer is released and lowered slightly, release the trigger and the hammer cannot go past half-cock, and even if it did the firing-pin lock is engaged so the primer can't be detonated.  If you hold the trigger back long enough to get you past the half-cock, the process is much more hazardous, as evidenced by the stories of CZ NDs at combat games requiring the hammer to be fully lowered at the outset.

It can be done, but practice with an unloaded gun until you are comfortable, then practice some more.
