Cz82 sear spring reassembly
« on: September 04, 2014, 11:21:49 PM »
Well I went ahead and did it after I was told by so many not to. I just had to take it apart. The brushed stainless gunkote came out perfect, the wood grips look beautiful, new sights are sharp and clean...but I can not get the d*** sear spring to engage the auto safety. I have all the youtube videos and printed off the captains instructions but no luck. Please someone must have the secret knowledge or the special touch. Before this project I considered myself pretty handy, now my confidence is in the gutter. I have to know how these pistols were assembled - no way did a Czech gunsmith spend this much time on a spring. Thanks in advance for any help

It is a pain in the butt, but persistence pays. I once found it worked better with the frame inverted. Then I quit taking them apart. Learn from your mistakes...

Put your auto safety and ejector together. I used toothpick. Assemble into the gun. If your ejector has the hole in the top that helps. I let the sear spring come up though the hole and used a round end plastic punch that I made out of a cleaning rod. Stuck through the ejector hole and pushed the spring down with a little pressure and pressed the ejector and auto safety down into place until it caught. Kept my thumb pressed down on it and checked tension to know I had it then put the pin in to hold it. That's the easiest way I found. Always check the tension of the auto safety to make sure u have it.

I was pretty sure at one point that I would never get it back together again but I used the method above and it worked for me.  I did go through a few toothpicks.

Need help - Update: got it back together using the notched jewelers flat head screwdriver, but the key was a new sear spring. The new spring was just a little bit longer and got it engaged on the third try. HOWEVER...something ain't wright. The trigger seems a little spongey and the disconnector (19) and trigger bar (17) don't seem to have enough spring tension. Looking through the ejector (20) hole the sear spring is not popping up but can be seen just to the left of the auto safety. Question? Is it properly engaged? When the trigger is pulled in DA mode about 1/4 of a pull something clicks plus when field stripping the disconnector pops up when a little pressure is applied to the trigger - is that normal? Thanks for replies. I need another unmolsted cz82 to compare.

Not sure I will have to check mine. I would make sure the trigger spring is in good. If its in properly the trigger will have a springy feel even before you put the hammer spring in. Its been awhile since i took mine apart.
