PIC HEAVY - P01 w/ Viridian X5L and Multiholster
« on: June 15, 2013, 08:39:03 PM »
When I was researching the Viridian X5L, I couldn't find any pictures of the two together to get a good idea of the dimensions.  I knew the light would hang past the barrel, but not by how much.  Since I was debating whether or not to upgrade to the SP-01 Tactical at a later date, I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet.

I also lucked into two holsters from Multiholsters.  They are pretty much the only game in town for light mounted holsters.  They work off blue guns, but since there is none available for the P01, I was very lucky when they had a walk-in customer with a P01.  I ordered two - a hybrid and surface mount, both with the Viridian ECR capability.  The hybrid is pretty comfortable, and will be more once it's completely broken in.  I've yet to figure out where to mount the surface holster.  It's meant for bedside duty, but I realized I don't want to drill into the bedframe or nightstand.  I might make an L frame to slip between the mattress and bedframe.

Good job on the pics, and it looks like you found some really good choices for holster options with the P01 and light combo.

How comfortable is it with the light when worn IWB? Does it make any difference in comfort or ability to draw?

Also, how is the light?

I researched for about 3 weeks trying to find a mounted light holster vendor.  I contacted nearly all the custom leather guys, and none of them were willing.  I didn't really want Kydex, but realized that was the only option realistically available for me.  (Hey leather guys, want a niche???  Hint, hint, hint...)

It's pretty comfortable IWB.  I carried a G19 about 10 years ago before I moved out of state.  Having moved back, I just got my CHL again.   This setup reminds me of my old Milt Sparks VM-2, which was very comfortable.  I'm still waiting on my gun belt from the Beltman, so I'm hoping that will make it even better.

I'm fine drawing the weapon.  Every now and then (1 in 10 maybe?) I fumble on the reholster.  I believe that may be the light hanging out and below a bit.  But I haven't had it snag once on a draw.

Nice! THanks for posting. I've been looking for a holster that can hold a TLR-4 but didn't have much luck. I just went with a holster made for the P-01. Still, thanks for posting!

I came across a post on Ar15.com where a guy was able to get BladeTech to adopt their mold for the SP01 and his TLR1.  I believe Tony may have been considering doing the same thing, but it's far from optimal.

When I was researching this, I gave BladeTech a call, and from what I could tell the hold up was the Viridian light, not necessarily the gun.  If you have a TLR, you may have better luck than I.  I'd say its something to look into.   The default CS response is that they don't offer that, but it seems the engineer was leaning my way until they didn't have a mold for the Viridian.
