How to replace recoil spring?

What is the trick for getting the recoil spring back on split wire rod?  There must be an easy technique for this.

Saw it on an older thread, but still seems harder than it needs to be.

There must be some Brazilian kung fu, iron crane, technique that make it stupid simple....?
