A couple questions from a Newbie
« on: November 06, 2014, 06:26:11 PM »
Hi All,

I am Newer.  Only been shooting as of Feb.   I have a CZ 75 B .40, CZ 75 B .9 stainless and  SP 01 .9

I just got the 75B 9 and was wondering if the magazines for the SP 01 9 work with the 75B 9.  I had some feed/jam issues on my first outing with the 75b 9 .

I got the 9 to replace the 40 which is my favorite gun.   The 40 has the pro package from CGW.   I was hoping to see a big difference in the recoil on the 9 vs the 40

but as a new shooter I did not see the difference.  Does anyone else have a .9 and .40 in the 75b and do you notice a big difference in the two? I was planning on

sending 9 to CGW also do you think that will make a difference in recoil?

Here are my two targets today   first one is from the .9  second is the .40  both at 25 yards.

Welcome and nice shooting :)

I can't speak to the recoil differences - never shot a .40 S&W 75B.  However, I wouldn't expect typical modifications to have a significant impact on recoil (short of tuned porting).  Changing out recoil and hammer springs would have a tiny impact.

The 9mm SP01 magazines should work fine in the 75B.

With the 9mm, whose ammo did you use? Was it 115gr or 124gr?

Welcome to the forum peanut1010.
Nice shooting.

As said,  the load will determine the felt recoil.  As a reloader,  I can load some that have next to no recoil  or others that really give a lot of muzzle flip.  The 'snappiest' I've tried was a 95 grain bullet.  The lightest felt recoil was with a 147 gr bullet.
The lighter bullets generally have the most felt recoil and muzzle flip.  With commonly available commercial Target ammunition,  that's a 115gr bullet.  Some manufacturers load the with lighter powder loads than others.  Some barely cycle the slide adequately---dependent on the recoil spring in place.

Thanks for the replies

I used 124 grain surefire reloads in 9

and 180 grain surefire reloads in the 40

I guess I was just expecting to feel more of a difference between the two :'(

Thanks again

As pointed out the weight makes a difference. It would appear your experience in the 9mm and .40 are not exactly compareable. The 124gr is probably the best of the lighter weights for 9mm a bit snappy but not like a 115gr. Your .40 cal of 180 falls on the heavier half of available ammo. You might want to try a factory Fiocchi 147gr or a Federal American 147gr for a better comparison. Or by a lighter weight ammo for your .40 cal like a 135gr or a 155gr. Good shooting and have fun!

That is nice shooting for a new shooter and great guns you selected.  Just wanted to mention that it's .40 (inches) and 9 (mm-no decimal point).  Welcome to the board.
