TriStar C-100 in .40 reliability issues
« on: January 22, 2015, 01:41:10 PM »
Purchased a C-100 in .40 cal last month. Took it to the range and fired 140 rounds. All good to this point. Went to break it down for cleaning and that is when the problem surfaced. Could not budge the slide stop. Finally had to drift out the slide stop with a hammer and punch. The slide stop upon observation was slightly bowed. Contacted the folks at TriStar who were very pleasant to deal with. Stated they had this problem with two or three of the 40's. Stated they would send me a new recoil spring and slide stop. They arrived yesterday. If this solves the problem I will be surprised as the new spring looks exactly like the old spring. Will be next week before I can get back to the range to test it. Anyone else seen this problem?

Yep. I was one of the ones they gave a new slide stop to.  Like you I had to drift out the first one, and eventually got it so warped it was unusable. Like you I thought the new one looked like the old one. But it worked, no issue no problem. I have no idea how the new one was differed, but it solved the problem. I have shot the gun with the new stop, and all good.
I found them easy to deal with, and as long as I can get parts if needed I'm happy.

So far, I'm seeing good Customer Service from Tri-Star.  8)  Glad they are taking care of you!  :)

Did you just replace the slide stop or the recoil spring also?

Must have been a problem with the tempering of the steel on a batch. Good to hear that is all it took. Will test mine early next week. Really like their customer service.

Other folks looking at this won't understand what we are talking about. But if you have one of these bad slide stops the gun is almost impossible to break down for cleaning.
If by chance you get one like this just go ahead and call TriStar for a new slide stop.

Just an update. Received and installed the new recoil spring and slide stop. Made trip to the range today and fired 100 rounds. When I went to disassemble the gun the slide stop popped out with ease. Problem solved. I am much happier today.
