New toy: CZ75B Stainless Polished, she's a shooter!
« on: March 03, 2014, 08:08:23 PM »

All 16 rounds into a just under 1" group at 10 yards (and some of that was target hanger sway). Shot from a forearm rest, 115gr Blazer Brass.

I just picked up this CZ75B Stainless Polished from my FFL yesterday. I plan on turning this gun into a bit of a project, putting in some aftermarket parts (CGW), converting it to SAO, removing the firing pin block, and just doing some general tuning and polishing. I wanted to take her out and see what she can do bone stock before I start upgrading and moding. Turns out, she's quite the shooter right out of the box. In addition to this very good string from a forearm rest to test accuracy, shooting offhand was extremely intuitive and natural pointing. The gun just melts into the hand. Recoil was very controllable, with the sights dropping predictably right back on target.

I'm actually rethinking my upgrades now since the sights and grips were much better than expected stock. I'll probably still swap them out eventually, but I think I'll do the mechanical upgrades first. I plan on using a Cajun Gun Works hammer and CZ custom flat trigger. With some polishing and some spring tuning, I'm hoping for a sub 3lb trigger that's completely crisp. As is stock, the trigger is a bit creepy and heavy in SA. I've used CGW trigger parts before and they were excellent, so I'm expecting good things when I'm done. I'm thinking VZ grips in black cherry and a fiber optic front, serrated back sight set up to finish her off.

THAT is sweet!  Shoot the heck out of it, to both learn the pistol and break it in.
After your mods,  you'll be even more impressed. 8)

I live to see targets like that!  And to hear from happy gun owners.

I just moved into Shiny 75B land a couple of weeks ago, and the next $400 I can rob from anything else I can put off is going to CGW also.
These are almost too pretty to handle though !

I just picked up our high polish stainless from my FFL Saturday! Seems like a trend going on here. Want the same CGW sights and swap to the old school 85 trigger, just not 100% if I'll go CGW action job or give CZC a try. Have some Hakan grips on order that are going on ours.

Made some updates  :D

I was going to take my time with this, but my excitement got the best of me.

Upgrades and modifications:

  • Conversion to SAO
  • Removed Firing Pin Block (CGW sear cage spacer in place of lifter arm)
  • CGW Ring Hammer
  • CZ Custom SAO Trigger, CGW reduced power trigger return spring, CGW trigger pin
  • Polished all internal contact surfaces and extractor, feed ramp, chamber (had a couple FTE's, Wolff extra power spring on the way)
  • CZ Cocobolo thin grips and SS screws from CZ Custom (not totally sold on these. I'm kinda digging the rubber ones, as nice as the cocobolo ones look)

The results were amazing. The trigger breaks clean and light, there is almost zero take-up and about 2mm of reset and total travel. Trigger is 1911 like, and that's about as fine a compliment as I can give as far as triggers go. Everything went together without a hitch for the most part. I had a few hiccups with the trigger not resetting because the trigger bar spring jumped off it's track and wedged itself between the trigger bar and frame.

My trigger bar was very, very poorly machined and the groove was cut off center and extremely rough. Attempts to smooth it out apparently made the track a little less distinct and the spring wire liked to jump out of the groove. I solved this by putting a little bend so the part of the wire that contacts the trigger sits off the frame a little and it seems to have solved it. If not, I may have to re-cut the groove.

Other than that, I had some FTEs after about 300 rounds or so. I think the packing grease in the extractor groove started fouling the extracter. I took it apart and cleaned it all out, it was filthy in there for just 300 rounds. I polished everything per the FAQ in the gunsmithing section and hopefully that solves it. I also have a Wolff extra power spring on the way in case it happens again.

Anyway, I couldn't really be happier with how this all turned out. Just need CGW to finish those fancy new adjustable sights and I'm going to call her done.

Congrats!  I bought that same gun last Dec but mine came with the half checkered coco grips.  Only thing I've done is put the stainless base plates on the mags.
