Questions of classifiers for USPSA & IDPA
« on: January 20, 2015, 08:26:36 AM »
I have a question regarding classification in both USPSA and IDPA, from what I understand it seems that if I shoot any USPSA match at my club (or any USPSA match for that matter) other than a fun match that my score counts towards my classification. But that in IDPA they only hold X number of classifier matches per year and you must shoot the classifier to become ranked in IDPA. But in USPSA every match counts towards your ranking is that correct?

Thanks.
No one's gonna to do it for you.

Most local USPSA matches will include at least one classifier stage as part of their match.  Your score from the classifier stage(s) is what counts towards your classification, not the entire match.  Unlike IDPA where there are just three classifier stages, USPSA has a library of about 50 stages that matches can choose from.

There is a rule in USPSA where if there are sufficient number of GMs present to establish the high hit factor then your match score from a major match would count as your classification.  Nationals is a good example.

In USPSA, at a level one ( club)  one stage that is a classifier stage.
Your score on that stage. So the stage Hit Factor, not the match is sent to USPSA and computed against others in the data base for that stage. That gives you a hitfactor for that stage nationally. Once you have a certain number of classifiers that is calculated for your classification.
area matches, regional and major matches will depend on the number of GM shooters and the scores they shoot and the whole match would count as a classifier.

IDPA, has one stage that is used for classification. It is up to the club when they run that stage and submit for your classification.

Most of our clubs up here will run at least one match with the Classifier Stages in the match to classify as many members as possible.  Any IDPA certified Safety Officer is certified to run Classifiers and these can be run for individuals anytime during the year.  At my club most of our members like to Classify in more than one Division and our Safety Officers make themselves available to our members to run the Classifier by appointment.   They are run usually in the evenings in the summer or on Sundays at the convenience of both parties.
