Ar24k problems with trigger reset / rebound in live fire
« on: December 23, 2014, 07:36:56 AM »
New to the forum and have a question.  With my Ar24k, a problem has developed that was not there when new.  (Gun has been thoroughly field stripped and cleaned between sessions).  When firing the pistol regardless of ammunition brand, the trigger most times fails to reset.  I have to manually put my finger behind the trigger and push forward to reset it to fire the next round.  This only occurs with live fire.  I cannot replicate this in dry fire mode and it has me puzzled.  First thoughts are to replace the spring that drives / resets the trigger ( not sure which (spring) actually is responsible for this).  Any thoughts or has anyone ever had this condition occur with any cz or cz clone.  Pistol is now probably 6 or 7 years old but with maybe 300 rounds through it.  Not sure that armalite sells these any longer in their line up..

Edit:
Anyone think this could be a sear engagement issue?  No mods have been done to this firearm since acquiring new.

Heck, I had to look online to find out what an AR-24k was.
It could be the trigger spring or where the disconnector meets the trigger bar. Just an educated guess.

When you say you have to push the trigger forward to reset...is this a decent amount of movement, or is it just an imperceptible nudge that is needed to make the trigger reset?

If it's the first bit, I would guess broken trigger return spring. It would definitely cause free play at the beginning of the trigger's travel.

If the second, I would say it's an issue with the trigger bar. It is pushed up by a plunger that should be obvious when you field strip the gun. Check to see if the plunger travels up and down freely, and keeps the trigger bar all the way up while still maintaining a bit of spring tension. May sure the bar doesn't bind as it passes over it.

Your gun is essentially a Tanfoglio. IIRC, those Armalites were made by SAR. Who patterned their guns after Tanfo. I mention this merely because it should be very easy to find pictures, diagrams, instructions ect for a steel Tanfo (Witness), whereas 'AR-24' stuff is going to be pretty hard to come by.

I have owned a couple of AR-24s. Like the previous guy said. I would check the trigger spring first then the trigger bar spring which is located under the trigger bar and goes down to the mag release. A CZ or tangfoglio trigger spring will swap right out. A Tangfoglio trigger bar spring will swap on those guns just fine.

Thanks for the replies.  I own several Tangfolios, a CZ 75B, several Tristars.  Only one AR24K.  I will get busy on examining the springs that you all mentioned.  I have yet to strip one of these beyond basic field stripping so i will need to study up a bit to get to the springs cited.  Thanks to the three of you who responded.  Gives me a starting place to look.  And yes, its more than just an imperceptible amount of nudge to reset the trigger forward.  I would have thought that this would present itself in dry fire and not just live fire but who knows, just need to get it back to a reliable firearm status. ::) :o
