Replacement Iron Sights and Drift Tool Suggestions
« on: February 17, 2015, 06:17:12 AM »
Guys and Gals:

I'm really liking my VZ2008. The other day I was out at the range and shot 3 inch groups at 100 yards with the stock iron sights, about as good as you could expect, seeing at that range the front sight's width covers up about 8 inches of the target's horizontal diameter.

So I'm thinking a thinner, brighter front pin might be a cheap way to get a bit more accuracy. I'm not really interested in mounting an optic. This is my brush gun, and I don't want anything too nice on it that will get scratched up.

Does anyone have an aftermarket front sight they really like? Anyone know the front pin's thread specs? Are they the same as AK's and can we use sights made for them? And while we're at it, anyone have a good, inexpensive drift tool?

Front sight tools are a dime a dozen. Google is your friend. Just search AK sight tool.

Bought this when it was on sale to throw in the tool kit.  Seems very sturdy but pricey when not on sale.  (But I have a bunch of sights that can use this: SKS, VZ58, AKMs) Some people claimed the cheap and cheerful carbon sight tool was not up to par.  Haven't really tried either yet myself, so I cant recommend.

btw, the cleaning kit includes a sight post tool.

The post above is opinion, and I am probably totally wrong, so please pardon me if I offend anyone in any way. I am speaking only for myself and just sharing my thoughts, not trying to start an argument with anyone, and if you disagree with anything I have said, I concede your correct.

Forced march sells a brass version of that...

I've also seen a turned down front sight post on a cutaway VZ58...  It's on my list to get to eventually...
