Best bang for the buck on 85C trigger.
« on: April 16, 2015, 12:43:50 AM »
Been kicking around the idea of working over the trigger of my 85C. Its pretty decent now but does have a bit of creep. If I get on the CGW site and buy everything trigger related I am going to have just shy of $250 worth of hard parts wrapped up in it. Am I going to see much benefit getting the 13#hammer spring, extended firing pin, reduced power trigger return spring, and short reset disconnector? The race hammer looks badass but is it $115 badass? Is my best bet just slamming  race hammer and sear in it? Keep in mind that my Kadet kit sees time on it so it has to run that way as well. Help me out please gurus.

I went with the whole enchilada on my 85C, less the extended firing pin, and am glad I did. I too run with my Kadet 1/2 the time.

You'll need to run a heavier hammer spring with the Kadet kit than with 9mm and you'll lose some of the niceness in DA because of that, but the SA will still be amazing. It's no big deal to change out a hammer spring to get all the benefit back.

The race hammer and sear give the biggest bang as far as improving the trigger. It will remove all the creep, not pre-travel, and make the hammer stop camming back in SA.

What painter said. And don't forget the type 1 disco. It totally eliminates over travel on SA reset.  Amazing!

What hammer spring do you run Painter? If you stick to a heavier spring you are less likely to need the extended FP correct?

I use my Kadet to shoot in an indoor bullseye league. It's all SA so I use a stock 20lb hammer spring. Joe L uses his with a 17lb spring.

In the summer when the pistol goes back to 9mm for outdoor shooting I run a 13 or 15lb spring with no need for an extended firing pin.

I use Winchester primers and get 100% ignition. The only time you would need the extended pin is if you want to run an 11lb or less hammer spring.

Thanks for the info. I rarely shoot double action but was planning on getting back into match shooting this summer.
