My 85 Combat is somewhat of a problem child as far as CZ pistols go. I should have known when it took David three tries to fit a Shadow hammer because the slide was different from any other slide he had seen, and we're both trying to avoid shipping a pistol for what seems like a simple modification.
So I'm running the pistol with the kadet kit installed and decide to add a short reset disco. The install goes smoothly...sort of. The trigger won't reset so the phone gets picked up and David is right there to explain what I need to do like he always is. Another instance where the pistol is 'slightly' out of spec.
So I switch the top end to 9mm and lo and behold, the hammer starts following the slide to half cock. Back on the horn and David decides I need a different hammer kit so he sends me a CGW race hammer because "I never have any issues with my parts." I install it and sure enough, the hammer is still following. Back on the horn and we try a few things long distance and it's pretty obvious that something is wrong, so off goes my problem child to Louisiana via Fed-Ex.
Fast forward a few weeks and I get an email saying it's on it's way back. Being curious I ask him what he found. He tells me my pistol is "a little unusual". I already knew that. Turns out that even though all the parts looked fine with no wear, the replacement hammer kit wasn't ever fired, it wasn't working correctly. Having the luxury of a pile of new parts he started replacing hammers and sears until it worked. Then he must have started taking other things apart and decided he didn't like my 'non standard firing pin'...so he replaced it. From the parts he sent back he must not have liked a few other small items either because there were screws and springs in the bag of parts.
Now for the best part. I ask what I owe him because he never charged me for any labor, and he has to ship the pistol to boot. All I get is "Warranty. If our parts don't work, it's on us." When I ask if I can pay the shipping he tells me " I'll charge double next time." I may be a dumb Yankee, but there's something wrong with that Rebel math.
So three hammer kits, a firing pin, his labor, some misc. items, and shipping and he isn't worried at all about losing his shirt on this transaction.
Thanks David. I don't know what else to say besides I'll
never consider go anywhere else for CZ gun smithing or custom parts.
