new CZ40P owner
« on: January 31, 2015, 10:18:47 PM »
Soon, I will have in my possession a CZ40P.  I already am somewhat familiar with the magazine size limitations.  I've looked over some of the threads about additional magazine options.  It's coming with 3 10 round magazines (at least 2 are factory).

My understanding is that if I want additional capacity the CZ75/85 Mec-Gar 40 S&W mags can work but will 'stick out' from the bottom of the magwell slightly.  Will the 14 round Mec-Gar magazines work as well?

Also has anyone tried using the SP01 Aluminum base pads from the custom shop?  I think they'd look better then the factory ones.

Thanks guys. I'll throw up a few pics when I pick it up.

Well, here it is..  Brought home.  I'll take some better pics in the morning.
Honestly there is no holster wear, It looks brand new.  The barrel is showing some signs of wear on the outside, the bore looks good.  Stainless steel guide rod, factory cleaning tools, factory box, test target, and CZ loader.  Also interesting 3 magazines, only 1 appears to be a CZ magazine.  Also unless the stamping has changed.  On the frame is the CZ stamp and 04, so I'm assuming it was put together in 2004.

Let's play "one of these things is not like the other".

3 CZ baseplates although two of them have the center removed.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Side view of the mags..

It appears the S&W mags are laser cut...wait what?  Yes the 2 mags with the center punched on the baseplate are laser cut.  The round indicator is on the side, only 1 side has been cut for the mag release.  They fit fine and drop free loaded and unloaded.  I'll have to take it to the range to see if the feed correctly.  Is this common? I compared them to my M&P40 magazines and the M&Ps are too big to fit in the CZ frame.

The unmarked mag only holds 10 as well.

Does anyone have any ideas on the S&W marks on mags?

Thanks

Almost forgot the night sights still have some glow to them.

Well, searched the forum and found that it's just .40 S&W only the baseplate hides the .40 on the magazines...LOL ::) :-[

Congratulations!

Lots of questions,

If you remove the base plates does it have 40 underneath? That's what I remember.

The laser cuts were done during the mag ban to limit normal capacity.

Nothing wrong with the two mags with "missing" buttons, just a different style retainer clip.

All the mags look factory. The designs and finish have changed over the years.

Not sure they are night sights like Trijicons. They came with a glow in the dark setup the works once exposed to light.

Not sure about how the mags would fit. Pro mag made a 12 (?) for it years ago that worked well.

You didn't list the condition of the recoil bushing. You should have a Derlin bushing on the guide rod. Most first time buyers mention it because they look really worn, but that's normal wear and tear.

I'll check the bushing status and check under the base plates in the morning.
Thanks!

I have my first CZ (40p) waiting for me in layaway and I was wondering where one could buy one of those delsin bushings? Better yet, is there anyone I can personally PM about the 40p because I have so many questions about it that I can't find online. Nice looking guns by the way! It's pictures like these that keep my patience from running thin.

I have enough delrin rod to last 10 lifetimes.  I was waiting to field test it on my 40p before I offered 40p bushings here on the forum.  I spend more time shooting my 97BD and SP01 and don't get too much range time with the 40p.  If you really need one I can make it and you can help be a tester.  Shoot me a PM if interested.

Cheers,
Toby

I finally got some time for some better quality photos my of my add.

The previous owner had added a new spring and stainless steel guide rod.  The original bushing is there and does show what is typical wear.  The barrel does show some wear, but the exterior of the gun is in excellent condition.  Honestly, I was suprised by the last of wear (even holster wear).

And one to just be artistic.    I also have a bladetech holster which it fits very well, but I don't know the model #.

So what do you think of the gun?  I just picked one up in a trade deal and really like it so far.  You've had yours a while so I thought I'd ask what your thoughts are...

Sorry for the delay (vacation)...

I really do enjoy shooting it.  In fact I shoot it better than my M&P40.   Fully loaded it's about the same weight as my fully loaded M&P40 and about the same size (thanks to the grip extensions).  The trigger is smooth in double and single action.

It might be a bit heavy for everyday ccw for some folks.

Overall for a bit of an oddball frankengun I really do enjoy it.

I feel the same way about my 40P.  I'm more accurate with it than my other CZ's, likely due to the sights being more visible.  Recoil is nicely soaked up by the gun and it's a joy to shoot.
