Polishing a P-01 frame ?
« on: August 14, 2015, 03:12:19 AM »
Has anyone tried polishing the aluminum alloy frame on a P-01? or is there any good reason not to attempt this?
I just really like the looks of those dual tone 75c's

Recently I've been looking into Cerakote and Robar.  You might consider that first.

If you really wanted to try it, I'd start with a cheaper part such as an extra slide stop, decocker lever, mag release, or something like that before scuffing up your frame or slide.

I really am looking for the nickel plated look in a high polish or the polished stainless over, cerekote finishes, that's why I was thinking about polishing the aluminum frame myself and then "maybe" a clear coat to protect it.
I can't really try some of the smaller parts because they are steel.

Not sure about the alloy frames, but stripping off the polycoat on a steel frame is not recommended. The polycoat can hide small imperfections, that may or not be there, and will really show up if you are just re-painting the frame. Past posts have documented pits under the polycoat that could not be finished over. These imperfections are not a factory defect per CZ. They know there might be some and know the polycoat will cover them. If you strip the alloy frame you are taking your chances IMO.

Thank you ^^^^ This makes sense, I would hate to strip it down and find imperfections that would require too much material that needed removal in order to get that perfect finish. Hmmm.....I've been wanting to add a 75 B to my new CZ addiction, sounds like the polished stainless version might be the smart choice.

If you polish it, you will remove the anodising. Bad karma.

I was going to recommend Robar as well...that is, if you don't want to chance polishing it yourself. They're great.
