1st Outing with the Compact - happy camper!
« on: October 22, 2015, 12:26:17 AM »
My buddy had stumbled on this gun at Scheel's while looking for a shotgun. He knew I was looking for a compact CZ for carry and gave me a heads up. I called on it a couple times before deciding to go down to check it out. The thing looked brand new and after breaking it down I couldn't see any signs of it being fired more than the factory test rounds. I pretty well fell in love once I had it in hand so I plopped down the cash for it.

Fast forward through the waiting period and a hectic week and 1/2 at work and I finally had a chance to get out and shoot it. Over the last two nights I had stripped it down, cleaned and lubed it and then did 1,000 dry fires.

Reassembled and lubed - ready to go

Tonight I ran 200 flawless rounds through it - all reloads using 115 grain RN  X-treme bullets and W231 powder. I ran anywhere from 5 to 14 +1 rounds in the mag with no hiccups. I shot it fairly well, not as good as I shoot my Cagunized SP-01 but then again I didn't expect too with a bone stock Compact. I was happy with the overall feel of the gun in hand, the thing handle recoil fantastically for a Compact and I think with some more time behind the trigger I'll close the groups up a bit.

I think the biggest improvement that I can make right off the bat is upgrade the sights. I had a hard time picking up a clear sight picture with the stock 3-dot even after brightening up the dot with some white paint. My SP-01 is set up with the CZ Custom rear sight and fiber optic front - I can pick up that site picture quickly and easily so I'm wondering if I should go a similar route with the Compact or if I should go the night sight route given that it will be a carry gun. Thoughts?

20 shots (2 mags w/ 10 rounds) @ 7 yards...

As a bonus I also took my old S&W Model 41 out for a spin. I had been having some issues with stove piping for a while now and think I may have got the bugs worked out. Ordered a new Volquartzen extractor, new extractor spring, firing pin spring and Wolff recoil spring pack. After those updates and experimenting with the Wolff springs I think I found a combo that reliable extracts.

I certainly can't complain how it shoots - 30 shots (3 mags) @ 7 yards

Pulled a few shots towards the end but was still happy.

Nice shooting.  I replaced my front sight only with a CGW FO sight and left the factory rear on.  It makes a big difference for me.
