.45 super or .460 Rowland
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:23:38 AM »
I'm planing on a .460 Rowland conversion for my 1911 but thought how cool a 97 would be.
I would think the 97 would be strong enough but with no 10mm offering I would like some thoughts.
Has anyone done one or made it through the planing stages( proper compensator)My property has a  black bear and hogs. While I'm not to worried I still carry my 45-70 but something like the .460 has a lot of appeal.
I have my 1911 but the 97 would be really cool but I just don't know enough about it.

I would not.  If you get the springs rates right, the slide stop and lower barrel lug are going to see significantly increased stress.  The front barrel lug could let go since it's not fully supported like the 9mm versions.

Consider +P .45, which is some pretty stout stuff.

  Thank you sir.
I think I'll stick with the 1911 conversion vs trying to reinvent the wheel.
I could always go with a Glock 20 but then I'd feel dirty

If you think 10mm is sufficient for your purpose, why not check out EAA Witness models in 10mm. They are high quality CZ clones, with a good reputation for reliability and accuracy.

I've done the Rowland conversion and 45 super on my 1911's, but now use loads fairly similar to this one:

I load a tad hotter for a SW1911 with a few tweaks to it and it is a great woods carry load.

But an EAA 10mm is on my short list... ;)
