VZ Grips on a PCR
« on: January 07, 2016, 06:16:47 PM »
I purchased a PCR last summer, and ordered new VZ grips for it this week.  They came today.  When I try to install them, the grips fit into the grooves great, but then the screws don't want to line up with the screw holes.  Called VZ grips, and they had never heard about this problem, but then again, there probably aren't that many PCR's "out there".  The grips are supposed to work on the PCR.

Has anyone had experience putting VZ grips on a PCR?  Good or bad?

This is on a 3 month old new PCR from Bud's and VZ grips. I had one side line up perfectly and the right side needed some fitting. The problem wasn't the grip panel, it was the tapped hole in the frame. It was short and cocked at a slight angle. I shortened the screw abt 2mm and enlarged the hole in the grip slowly with a rattail file until it all fit together. It wasn't an issue with with the factory rubber grip because it just formed to the crooked screw.

I'll give that a look and see if I can make it work.  Thanks!  Glad I'm not the only one who has this problem ... I was beginning to think I didn't know what I was doing.

I just put on some hyena brown frags on my new pcr and I had no issues.

I wonder why there's a difference...

I think the guy who drilled and tapped the grip screw holes was having a bad day. I also tried some CZ wood grips on the same gun and had to modify the grip hole on that same side.

I put a set of the factory CZ cocobolo half checkered grips on my PCR and they fit perfectly. They look great, too. Same thing with my 75BD. I put a set of VZ boot grips on a J-frame Smith & Wesson and they fit perfectly as well.

In the end, it looks like I just got a badly-machined pair, since there is no way to make the holes line up with the holes in the frame, and I'd have to do more bending than I'd like to do on a pistol frame.  The original grips went right back on without a hitch.  I'm returning them to Amazon for a full refund.  Thanks for all the input!

More often than not when an aftermarket accessory won't fit like grips that won't line up it's the part that's bad not the gun. I've sent back more grips that were ill fitting than I care to remember. I'd look at what CZ USA or CZ Custom has to offer.
