First CZ is a RAMI BD
« on: January 26, 2016, 08:19:28 PM »
Howdy all. I just purchased my RAMI BD last weekend (my first CZ). After a thorough cleaning, I put 160 rounds downrange in cold, windy conditions. I consider myself a novice shooter and far from a marksman but I surprised myself with my accuracy with the RAMI. It is probably the most accurate subcompact I have shot (or should I say I am more accurate with the RAMI than with any other subcompact). As far as reliability, I had two feed errors in the first 40 rounds or so and the next 120 were error free. I fed it 115 gr Fiocchi FMJ, 124 Magtech FMJ and 115 gr Winchester Kinetic HE. The failures were one each with the Fiocchi and the Magtech. Anyway, I joined the forum to see what tidbits of information I can pick up about my RAMI and CZ pistols. Already I found the discussion on holsters to be extremely helpful. Best regards all.

Welcome to the forum.
The Rami is one of my favorites. As far as feed issues, probably just being a tight pistol. But of course, polishing the feed ramp couldn't hurt[emoji6]

I purchased my RAMI BD for my main carry. I purchased the holster from Eric at HBE Leather. Great combination.

I strongly suggest polishing the feeding ramp and the breech face where the firing pin hole is. I posted pics of my feeding issues and the breech face polished in another thread here.  CGW also posted stating having to polish a few RAMI because of feeding problems. So far zero feeding issues after polishing. My pistol has close to 500 rounds already and it's been 3 weeks since I got it. Time to change recoil springs.

Thanks for the welcome and suggestions. I didn't really consider two failures out of 160 rounds (especially given the last 120 rounds were failure free) as any indication that the gun was lacking in anyway. I'll try to put 400 or 500 rounds through before I draw any conclusions.

I do have a question (perhaps dumb) about ammo - particularly for range use. I read somewhere that aluminum frames are less durable than steel (obviously) and reinforced polymer. Do you all suggest using mostly lighter loads for range use and high round counts? And saving the stronger loads and +P for infrequent use? I am not carrying the RAMI (yet) but for my Kimber I shoot mostly 115 gr FMJ but carry Glaser Safety Slugs in +P. Just wasn't sure how much heavier range loads or +P I should put through the RAMI.

+p is ok. Just as with any pistol, a steady diet will wear parts quicker.
I mostly shoot Amer. Eagle or WWB (that's what I find here mostly)
FWIW, pick up some outer recoil springs. Some guys have had to replace around 500 rounds. They are cheap (around $5) so pick up a couple. Everything else should be GTG.

Good suggestion on the springs. I noticed CZ's website is out of stock on the 10 round mags. I also couldn't find them at other web sellers. Any idea where to get the 10 rounders? If not available I will wait for CZ to restock and order mags and springs together.

Yes, it was a good call on the Greg Cote source for mags. I ordered a few extras and received the shipping notice less than 24 hours later. I also put another 120 rounds through the RAMI including some in a live fire simulator shooting at video bad guys. Its a very accurate firearm. Regarding ammo: I was surprised that it cycled my Hornady Lite ammo. I figured the Lites would be too underpowered to cycle in the RAMI but no issues. I've used those in my current EDCs (Kahr MK9 and Ruger LC9s) to control recoil.
