D-Technik VZ58 / FSN-01K / MAGPUL - Build Completed
« on: January 24, 2016, 06:46:02 PM »
Hello everyone,

I just wanted to post up a couple of pictures of a build that I just completed. I wanted to experiment a little with my VZ58 SBR and the results are posted below.

I have not shot the rifle yet and I am sure I will need to do some tuning to get the reliability perfect. But I will follow up with gas port specs and any other adjustments that may be needed for this specific build.

Enjoy!

Very nice! Did you modify the trigger guard where the grip attaches or modify the grip to fit?

Yes the trigger guard was modified. I cut off the "cup" that kept the original grip in place. Take note that when the cup is removed the grip can rotate in place so a spacer was made to keep the grip from rotating and to also lower the trigger guard about a 1/4 inch in the rear so it would line up correctly with the ak47 magpul grip. I will post a picture with the grip removed when I get out of work today.

Very simple and compact, I like it! How much does it weigh?

Very cool.  Where'd your barrel length end up at?

Sorry everyone It was my girlfriends birthday last night and I took her to dinner. So needless to say I did not get a chance to bring the guns out.

I took some more pictures and made sure to do some size comparisons with other rifles in my collection.

I also took some measurements as well.

Barrel length as measured using a rod pushed through the barrel and touching the bolt face is:
1) 9-7/8"

VZ58 SBR rifle weight:
1) 7.35 LBS no magazine
2) 7.74 LBS with empty magazine
3) 8.87 LBS with full magazine

VZ2008 rifle weight:
1) 6.75 LBS no magazine
2) 7.13 LBS with empty magazine
3) 8.26 LBS with full magazine

Galil MAR
1) 7.93 LBS With full Magazine

Krinkov - SLR106UR
1) 7.23 LBS With Full Magazine

As you can see my SBR gained some weight but most of that is attributed to the rear folding adapter, buffer tube and Magpul furniture as most of you know is actually quite dense and adds weight. But it sure does feel sturdy lol.

I also snapped a pic of the small spacer I made for the trigger guard. It looks bad because the grip scratched off my touch up paint. And I have some left over blue thread locker still on the anchoring nut. But the Spacer works perfectly and would allow any ak47 grip to be mounted with a small amount trimming to the inside of the grip to accommodate for the height of the spacer.

What handguard set are you using on your SBR?  BoneSteel?

Yes, it is a Bonesteel Arms upper and lower hand guard set.

And the folding stock is from Gun Expert - m.vz58rifle.com

The SBR is really nice (flamethrower?).  The Blond wood furniture is fabulous.

Thank you for the kind responses. I will be testing and tuning this Sunday and will post the results. Hopefully I can get some flamethrower pictures with my slow motion camera. O0
