What to use for cleaning new C100 Chrome model?
« on: February 04, 2016, 11:57:38 AM »
Just ordered a Tri Star C100.  It is the chrome model and I would like to know what is the best cleaner for it.  I use Gun Scrubber on all my other guns, but they are either polymer or satin finish steel.  I have never owned a highly polished chrome firearm before.  Also I usually use Mothers mag and steel polish to polish the barrels and the feed ramps of my pistols.  Any problems with that product on the C100?

The chrome C100 is not a polished chrome.
It is a matt chrome on the slide and cerakote on the frame.

I tend to use plain rubbing alcohol a lot on most everything in my garage so the guns tend to get that on the exterior along with Hopps for barrels and dirty internal bits. Then some lube in all the appropriate spots.
Works for me but probably not the best combo for the Cerakote, the chrome slide won't care.

So is this finish what they call the "wonder finish"?

no wonderfinish is a Tanfoglio term. It is suppose to be a heat treatment of some sort that provides corrosion resistance, not a plating or paint finish.

the slide is exactly like any steel slide that is sand blasted, then hard chrome finish, similar to matt stainless.
And the frame since it is alloy they did Cerakote which is a ceramic based paint finish in silver.
It does have a slight two tone look to it.

While you are waiting on your gun to come in go to my thread on smoothing the C100, there are a lot of pictures in there  so it should give you a better idea on the finish.

Great thread on the C100.  Lot of info I hope to use someday to do a little tweaking on the firearm if needed.  Like to run a couple hundred rounds thru the firearm prior to any mod....except for my SD9VE.  I installed the Apex trigger (not the spring kit....only trigger) prior to shooting because I knew what I wanted out of the trigger from the mod.

I did much the same for my SW9VE.  I've never bothered to mod the Triggers on any of my Cz Clones.  Just shoot them and let them wear in.
