CGW P-09 vs Stock SP-01
« on: March 07, 2016, 03:47:36 AM »
Hey all,

I have roughly $1k to spend on a handgun, safe and some ammo. I can't find any SP-01's locally atm. I could get one and have it transferred through an FFL for about $700 total right now. The CGW pro P-09 goes for $775.

I have yet to shoot the P-09 but I hear great things about it. The SP-01 is my favorite gun I've shot and what I plan on buying. But I wonder if you a budget of about $1k for a gun, safe and ammo, would you rather have an SP-01 or a Cajunized P-09?

The gun will be used for range fun and home defense strictly.

Thanks guys.

For your purposes get the SP01 and spend that $75 on more ammo

I wouldn't buy a pistol that I've had no experience with. I like both my stock CZ SP-01 Tactical and my stock CZ P-09. IMHO - The SA trigger on my P-09 is about as light as I would want on a pistol for self defense. I would assume that the Cajunized P-09 would be lighter. I think you can buy a stock black P-09 for right around $500. Good luck with whatever you decide to purchase.

What will be the "primary" use for this new pistol?

I also agree with wdbutcher  above, that it's not the best idea to buy before you try.  On the other hand,  few have had complaints about the ergos and accuracy of the P-09.

I'd take the SP 01 and upgrade the trigger as permitted by budget and desire.

But some people like polymer framed guns more than me.

I would go for the upgraded PO9 , lighter weight holds 21 with one in the chamber, I don't need a big heavy 9mm pistol .

The Cajunized P-09 would have a very light D/A and an even lighter S/A trigger. I Cajunized mine myself and what a range gun it is! I have the 75BD Cajunized as well and it is the best pistol I own. I feel the SP-01 is a little heavy for my liking. For the two guns you are asking, I would get the P-09.
