Also, I'm working on some armor carrier and battle belt setups for the VZ, and will share once I'm happy with them.

But in the interim, I did want to note that the Grey Ghost Gear AK Mag Panel does hold two VZ58 mags:

Spent quite awhile looking and these appear to be the best option at the best price:

And for magpuls, I think the 5.56 ones are the way to go.  I've tried the 7.62 NATO ones and they slide right off when pulled.  But I haven't actually tried putting the 5.56 ones on VZ mags yet.  Will have to boil them to soften first, so waiting on the wife to spend a weekend out of town or day out of the house for that and some other projects/repurposing of her stuff...

I have chicom type 81 for now, although might go with a vest and plate setup later.
But for now the 81s are on hand and will work in a pinch.

KeepShooting has Slovakian Army Assault Vests in stock -- these should have been designed to function/run with the VZ58:

Also, fwiw -- posted about in this other thread: http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=68599.msg497840#msg497840
I've come to prefer the SHG pouches to the GGG ones posted about here.

He is a "Kentucky Colonel"

Interesting reading CitizenPete. I just discovered your post & conclusions. It sounds like your class was great fun & of course I am very glad but not surprised that the Vz kept performing when others failled ...  ;)

Army regulation taught me to carry the mags top down + if you carry your pistol mags that way (most people do), I would suggest you should do the same with your primary mags in order to build muscles reflex.

I had one of those issued Chinese/Russian chest rig that I got in Vietnam,  partly as a souvenir at the time. I like minimalist kit & I think they look awesome. They perform perfectly but I found out that they will not resist if you try to drag the wearer (injured scenario) if he is not feather light South-East Asian frame.

I use both a short AK & a standard Vz58 during classes. I tried some US Palm pouches. They look great but a) they ride too low on my PC and b) they are too tight for getting the mag out quickly.
So now I use those Russian made ones . They are cheap,  robust and do the job perfectly.

@Froggy  Thanks for the link.  Good stuff.

The post above is opinion, and I am probably totally wrong, so please pardon me if I offend anyone in any way. I am speaking only for myself and just sharing my thoughts, not trying to start an argument with anyone, and if you disagree with anything I have said, I concede your correct.
