Question about mag seating on a new 97BD with a full mag
« on: April 24, 2016, 05:37:40 PM »
I notice on my new 97 BD in comparison to my 2 other CZ's 75BD and 75 Compact that a full mag on the 97 You have to tap it on home to get mag to fully seat in comparison to an empty mag for the 97BD. My question or Questions are will this get any easer over time in reloading this pistol. And could it be the larger 45 ACP shells put added pressure against the magazine when fully seating mag up into the pistol's frame.
Please don't get me wrong as I can get the mag into the pistol frame empty or loaded. Its if you put mag in slowly up to the mag catch it is sometimes a hard spot like feeling when fully seating the full mag. Maybe I'm making more out of it than it really is with time. Thanks for any input on this-Dave

Mine has always been this way even after 4k rnds through the gun. When the mag is empty the follower is at the top and helps shift the catch over on insertion but when the mag is loaded the follower is no longer up there so the mag body hits the catch at a flatter spot it seems and you have to drive it home. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about though.

Thanks for the reply - I also took off my slide and inserted a full mag slowly to see it also seems
to hit on the rim of the case in the magazine. May just be the nature of the beast as I remember
I once had a Ruger 1911 full size pistol which also did the same thing.
I think it may be the angle at which the cases are in relation in or on the mag follower .
I mean its not like I can't get the mag to latch into the mag for a secure lock-up.
Again thanks- Dave

It was the flat metal part #24 in the instruction book called the magazine guide
That needed just  a slight tweek or flex in towards the front of grip area
Seems to of helped this issue somewhat.
CZ's still rock and are somewhat easy to fix or work on... :)

It was more than the mag guide so I had CZ pick it up as it is a new pistol. I'll let them check it out
And do their magic to it....

When you have a fully loaded mag, the top round makes contact with the slide.  This causes you to have to overcome the fully compressed mag spring force to seat the mag.

If you pull one round out of the mag (9), does it get easier to insert?

The bullet profile can change the amount of force required and is one of the reasons I shoot swc bullets.

Cheers,
Toby
