I had to go and check the factory box on my 97BD and it does not have the 'R'.
My 97 is a 2014 and the label reads... CZ 97BD CAL .45 ACP / Black Poly / Aluminum

I called them a while back as I noticed this on one of my other CZs:

Called CZ-USA today.  They stated that the 'R' was used as an internal identification on their labelling:

R equals Red Dot
G equals Green Dot
B equals Blue Dot

The 'R' does not represent refurb or return.  An upside down 'Y' at the end of the serial number represents a refurb firearm.

That's good to know.
What is the meaning of Red, Green or Blue Dot?

Mine has an "R" and it came with red fiber optic filament in the front sight. I've never seen blue fiber optic filament, but I have seen green...
