97 B: Customization priorities
« on: June 03, 2016, 11:07:12 AM »
Hello All,

First post here.  I bought a 97b about a month ago and really love it.  I'd like to optimize it for accuracy and shooting comfort.  I don't care as much about carry comfort or looks.  Given that fact, what would you recommend as the best customizations?  It would be great if you guys could recommend them in order of priority that you think would be best. Thank you much.

The only change that I made to my CZ97BD was to add the fatter CZ factory plastic grips, as I found the aluminum grips to be uncomfortably thin. Otherwise, it was PIB ("Perfect In Box").

I put the rubber grips on my 97BD and love them.  I also changed the front sight to a 1.5mm fiber optic.  I first tried a 1mm fiber but, it was too small and got lost in the rear notch.  The front fiber optic helps my old poor eyes, YMMV.  Otherwise my only recommendation is that you buy or, make lots of 45ACP.

Hmmm...

Even though I love the aluminum grips on my CZ 97B, when my hands have sweat (hot days) it is kind of slippery.  I just might try the rubber grips.  I currently have rubber grips on my C 75 P-01 and I can get a good grip on the handle.

So were do I buy the rubber grips?

Unless money is not a concern and you are engaging in competitions, stick with the easy and inexpensive stuff first. Grips, grip add on's. It comes with the FO front sight so you are good there. Shoot the besneebers out of it and find out which specific ammo it and you do well with. Then and only then move on to more elaborate upgrades. If it shoots like mine you will need the cash saved for more ammo. ;)

I would also add that the CZ97 trigger, like seemingly all CZ triggers (and quite a few of other brands), start out a little rough, particularly in DA mode, but then smooth out considerably over 500 rounds (or snap caps) or so.

Good pistols do not require modifications to operate reliably and shoot accurately. The CZ 97 is a Good pistol. The 97 can also be customized into a fine competition pistol. This 97BD will be turned into a bulls eye / target pistol with slide milling for a low profile adjustable rear sight , F/O front and BE Bushing coming soon. So far, the 97BD Pro is a favorite of many. http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=68850.0    http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=74712.0

I agree with this.  I bought my 97 for a specific purpose--competition bullseye matches where my buddies all had custom 1911's.  I had never even seen or held a 97 until I got a "customized" one from CGW, a 97B"E", which is a 97B with CGW's tight fitting 1911 styole barrel bushing and his trigger parts.  I added a red dot sight and modified the grips and that is it and I've been shooting it in local matches for over a year.  Excellent firearm, certainly gives nothing away to the 1911s at 2-3x the price.

If all I wanted was a fun range gun, I'd still have to modify the grips,  and maybe the sights, and that is about it until I wanted the best trigger I could get, then I would buy some parts and put them in and be done with it.

Thanks everyone.  Quite helpful.  Also reminded me that I have a way to go before I'm as good as the gun.  Grips are in my future.
