Got an Omega
« on: June 06, 2016, 04:45:03 PM »
Pics first

Traded an LCP that I had $169 into and $200 cash for this Omega.  Came with case/manual/extra mag.  Trigger seems really light and smooth.  May or may not have some internal mods as the mags drop free and from what I have read the mag brake should prevent that, is that wrong?  Anyways, I ordered some new G10 grips for it off ebay this AM and I promise to take some better pics when they get here/installed.  Debating on getting the thing to shorten the reset from Cajun and possibly adding a FO front sight.  It will strictly be a range toy so I probably will leave it mostly alone after the grips and just put some rounds through it for a while.

Congrats.

My first CZ purchase is a 75B Omega ( found a good deal too, but not quite as good as yours).  The mags drop free in mine.  There is a mag guide (piece of spring steel in the mag well between the hammer strut and the mag well) that can be or have a mag break in some models, but I don't know if they have that feature in the Omegas.

I plan on doing some re-springing to help with my trigger pull, but I recommend that you shoot the pistol a bit before you decide if you want to change anything with the reset.  I found I was doing unintentional double taps because I was riding the reset on my first outing with mine.  I have found it to be pretty easy to wring some accuracy out of even in stock form.

If I could ever get mine back from my wife, I'd be happy to tell you how well it does after a couple of thousand rounds. It's her favorite range and night stand gun and she's run 1800 rounds through it over the last 2 plus years. I did put a set of Tru-Glo fiber/tritium night sights on the pistol and a set of smooth Rosewood grips. I haven't had a chance to shoot it in more than 6 months.

Too bad.  I actually like it when the slide engages when reloading.

What kind of ammo where you shooting? I'll get a failure to extract on occasion when I'm using really low power stuff.

That is unfortunate.  I've got over 500 flawless rounds through my 75 Omega.  Slide lock has been fine with no auto cycling on reload.  I've run the 16 rnd, 17rnd MecGarand 20 Rnd SP01 mags and at least 6 different commercial loadings through it.
