Thick magazine base vs. thin base
« on: September 10, 2012, 10:12:04 PM »
So, what's the story on the thick vs. thin bases on the mags?  I use the thick base as it tends to extend the butt a tiny but more and sort of continues the curve of the inside of the butt. Which came first, thick or thin?

CZ-USA might be able to answer that.

Personally I'm slightly more partial to the thin plate ones. I have two thick plated I'd be willing to trade for thin ones in comparable condition.

The thick base plates are newer I personally like the thick plates because the mag inserts easier. This could just be my mag as I had to get creative to break that mag down when I first got it

When I bought my CZ82 it came with one thick and one thin. I guess that's how it was intended. I'm guessing the thick stayed in the gun normally when holstered and the thin was the extra mag in the holster with the gun since the thin would take up less space. Now, when you order surplus mags you get whatever the vendor sends you, thick or thin.

If you buy new CZ83 mags, the thin is 13 rounds .380 (12 rounds 9x18) and the thick (plastic bottom, not metal) is 10 rounds .380 (9 rounds 9x18).

The last mag I bought was thick based and 12 rounds.

I think I prefer the thick base one. Easier on my pinkie.

Not really much difference between the 2 versions? I mean it's not like an XD mag with the extended mag sleeve adding almost an inch?

My thick base one always FTF's on the first shot. I take one bullet out and then it shoots fine. >:(

Just ordered two bases from CZ. I thought they'd be the thick ones, but no go. Where did you guys find the thicker ones? I see the thick aluminum ones on CZC, but I was looking fro the $9 rubber ones.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have a 1984 cz82 and it came with one thin base 12 round and a thick base mag that has the 9 shot blocker on it. I then bought a thick base mag 12 shot. For my needs if these mags holds bullets and goes bang I'm happy. If I was to carry it who knows. Whoever recoated this gun did the feeder ramp and the slides. Once I took care of that of that little problem it turned out to be a great shooting gun. Looking forward to reading anything about cz guns.

You must consider, that this thick rubber base is intended wholly for 9x19 Luger mags. So used on narrower CZ 82/83 mags (9x18, 9x17) can result in some possible problems with mag well and catch. Sometimes must be base adapted or trimmed.
Standard CZ 82/83 mags are only with thin base.
