97B ejects brass too far forward
« on: June 23, 2016, 02:22:55 AM »
My new 97B ejects the brass at a forward angle.  I want to collect my brass for reloading, but the angle of ejection is just enough forward that it goes down range where I can't recover it.  Forum search results indicate this may be a 97 trait, but I couldn't find any remedies.  Does anyone know how to tune the ejector or extractor to eject the brass to the side or slightly back?

Are the lanes partitioned off at your range? I find my brass will often bounce off the partition and out into the range.
If it's ejecting reliably and brass is landing within 6-8 feet of you give or take then you are better off not tuning anything. By the way you don't tune a pistol to eject brass just so you can collect it for reloading. I reload as well but when shooting at indoor ranges you are simply going too lose casings that way.

Does your fired brass have any dents or other defects?  I have a random ejection forward and it usually has a dent mid wall.  It must not be clearing the ejection port properly or the timing is off slightly.

I'm shooting at an indoor range and the brass trajectory clears the front edge of the lane partition. This was my first session with my new 97 and I shot only factory ammo (CCI Blazer Brass, 230gr FMJ).

OK so when you are holding the gun in the firing position where is the gun in relation to the lane partition? When I'm holding my gun in the firing position at the indoor range where I shoot the gun is actually well forward of the partition so even brass that is ejected from guns that toss spent casings at a rearward trajectory often still end up out on the range floor.

The muzzle was in the middle of the partition.  While inspecting the ejector and extractor I discovered the extractor barely even touched the case of a live cartridge and afforded no retention.  I'll take it apart and see anything is limiting its travel.

Make sure there is no factory lube/gunk in the extractor channel.
